To guide you accurately, please confirm which type of account you’re trying to close:

• Personal Microsoft account (usually ends ******@outlook.com / @hotmail.com / @live.com)
• Work/School (Microsoft 365 business) account (provided/managed by an organization)

If it’s a personal account

• You can close it by signing in to the official account-closure page and following the prompts (choose a 30/60-day reopen window, acknowledge the checklist, then select Mark account for closure): How to close your Microsoft account
• Note: You must be able to sign in to close the account.

If it’s a work/school (business) account

• This typically means the account is linked to organizational services, and closing it follows a separate business closure process (often requiring a Global Administrator).
• Please contact your organization’s IT/Admin to cancel/remove related services before closure.

To close an Outlook.com email account, the Microsoft account that uses it must be closed.

Follow these steps:

1. Go to the Microsoft account close page using this link: Close your account: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?linkid=845493
2. Sign in with the Outlook.com/Microsoft account that should be closed.
3. Read the information about what happens when the account is closed (email, contacts, OneDrive, Xbox, Skype, BitLocker keys, and other data will be deleted and access to services will be lost).
4. Follow the on-screen instructions, including any required verification.
5. Confirm the account shown is correct and select Next.
6. Read the list of items, check all the acknowledgment boxes, and choose a reason for closing the account.
7. Select Mark account for closure.

Important details:

• The account is marked for closure and will be permanently closed after the reopen window (30 or 60 days, depending on what is selected during the process).
• During that period, the account can be reopened by signing in again.
• If sign-in is not possible, use the support options described in the article (for example, the Sign-in helper or Contact Microsoft Support) to regain access before closing.
