Hi there, I paid my subscription and i haven't upload too many files and I have an issue with Copilot. It keeps reaching the daily limit of sending images, even after 72+ hours of not sending images. Why does this keep happening?

    Hello Emma Canizales,
Copilot image uploads and vision-related capabilities (image understanding, generation, and analysis) are governed by feature-level quotas rather than subscription tier or file count. Microsoft notes that these limits vary by entry point, system conditions, and backend capacity, and they do not necessarily reset every 24 hours. As a result, users may continue seeing a “daily limit reached” message for multiple days even without recent image usage. Paid subscriptions do not remove these limits, as AI credits and feature quotas are separate mechanisms—meaning users can still hit image caps despite having credits remaining. Microsoft does not publicly disclose exact image limits.
Common mitigations such as signing out, clearing cache, switching entry points, or waiting (sometimes over 72 hours) may help but are not guaranteed. Overall, the behavior is by design but inconsistently communicated, with non-deterministic limits and occasionally misleading error messaging.

The behavior is caused by built‑in feature limits for AI/image usage, which are separate from the subscription payment status and from how many files have been uploaded.

    Key points:

    1. Feature limits vs. AI credits
      • AI features (including image generation and image editing) are governed by feature limits and AI credits.
      • Feature limits are usage caps on how many times a specific AI feature (such as Actions or Vision/image features) can be used in a given time period.
      • AI credits are monthly usage allotments across Microsoft 365 and Windows apps; each AI action (for example, generating or editing an image) consumes credits.
      • Hitting the daily/periodic feature limit can block further image actions even if there are still AI credits remaining.
    2. Why the limit can persist after several days
      • The documentation states that feature limits "vary by subscription plan and feature" and "may vary based on the feature, entry point, and system conditions" and "may also change over time as new AI models become available."
      • This means:
        • The reset window is not guaranteed to be exactly every 24 hours.
        • Limits can be enforced differently depending on where Copilot is used (for example, Windows app vs. another entry point) and current system conditions.
      • As a result, the “daily limit” message can still appear even after 72+ hours if the backend has not yet reset the quota for that specific feature/entry point.
    3. File uploads vs. image limits
      • Uploading relatively few files does not prevent hitting image‑related limits. Each AI action (such as generating or editing an image) counts toward AI credits and may also count toward a feature limit for image/vision features.
      • Limits are about number of AI actions, not just how many files are stored or uploaded.
    4. What to check and how to monitor usage
      • The status of AI credits and feature limits can be checked under Services & subscriptions in the Microsoft account.
      • When a feature limit is reached, a notification is shown; usage must wait until the system resets that feature’s quota.

If the limit message continues for an extended period (for example, well beyond the normal reset window) despite minimal use, the next step is to review AI credits and feature limits in Services & subscriptions and then contact Microsoft support from the same account if the quota appears incorrect.
