Do you must sign into Windows using your school account? This is typically only when your computer is managed by the organization's IT team, then it has benefit of using an organization account to set up the computer, because the centralized contro/admin is by the Entra ID admin user/your IT team.

Otherwise, I strongly recommend that you set up the computer with a local user or your personal Microsoft account, especially if this is your own device. You can still use Microsoft 365 apps on your school account without surrendering your computer to your school's IT control.

If this is indeed a personal device, you need to factory reset it, start over. Set it up with your personal account instead.

To use school Microsoft 365, Please go to https://www.office.com

Sign into your school accoun t. Click on Apps on the left.

Then on the upper right, click on "Install apps". This will now download the installer file. Once downloaded, click on the file to install. It will install the Desktop version of the apps for you then.

Follow these steps to get Windows and Microsoft 365 working correctly with the school account and help with access issues.

    1. Verify the device is connected and online
    • Confirm the device is connected to Wi‑Fi and can open other common websites.
    • If other sites fail as well, fix the network connection first, then try the school site again.
    1. Check that the school account is properly added in Windows
    1. Open Settings.
    2. Select Accounts.
    3. Select Access work or school (briefcase icon).
    4. Look for the school account:
      • If the school account is not listed, select Connect, sign in with the school email and password, and follow the prompts.
      • If it is listed, the device and account are already connected.

If the account is listed but access problems continue, contact the school’s IT support. They may have restrictions or requirements that affect access to the school website or Microsoft 365 resources.

    1. If seeing compliance or sign‑in errors If any of the following messages appear when accessing school resources (web apps, Microsoft 365, or internal sites), use the corresponding steps:

    a. “Try signing in another way”

    • If prompted in Microsoft Edge:
      1. Select Switch Microsoft Edge profiles and sign into Edge with the school account.
      2. Or select Sign out and sign in with a different account and choose the school account.

    b. “Device is not compliant”

    1. Sign in to Windows using the school work/school account.
    2. Connect to the school network (VPN or DirectAccess) if required by the organization.
    3. Press Windows logo key + L to lock the device.
    4. Unlock using the school account, then try the school website or app again.

If the device still shows as non‑compliant, the school’s IT department must review the device compliance and conditional access policies.

    1. If Microsoft 365 desktop apps cannot sign in If Teams, Outlook, OneDrive for Business, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint cannot sign in with the school account while the browser works:
    • On Windows 10/11, an automatic Access work or school troubleshooter may run to repair missing components (such as Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin). This troubleshooter:
      • Detects if the Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin package is missing.
      • Installs it automatically when applicable.
    • To confirm it has run:
      • Windows 10: Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > View troubleshooting history.
      • Windows 11: Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Recommended troubleshooter history.
      • Look for: Access work or school troubleshooter – Automatically repair system files and settings to fix a problem on your device.

If sign‑in issues persist after that, contact the school IT helpdesk for further investigation.

    1. Use Get Help for additional diagnostics If signed into the PC with a work or school account:
    1. Open Get Help from the Start menu.
    2. Describe the issue (for example, “cannot access school website” or “school account sign‑in problems”).
    3. Run any troubleshooters offered in Get Help.
    4. If unresolved, use the contact/support option in Get Help or the school’s helpdesk.
    1. When to escalate to school IT Contact the school’s IT or administrator if:
    • The school account is correctly added under Access work or school, but the school website still cannot be reached while other sites work.
    • Messages like “You can’t get there from here” or “Device is not compliant” continue after following the steps above.
    • Internal school resources require VPN or special access that only the school can configure.

Do not share the device serial number publicly when contacting general support forums; provide it only directly to trusted school or vendor support channels if requested.
