I cancelled Copilot Pro and it cancelled my still valid Microsoft 365 Personal Subscription

I wanted to try Copilot Pro to see if I would be able to get more tasks as I was in the middle of a big project. It did not offer any more tasks, so I cancelled it. I also lost my paid-for $99 Microsoft personal subscription when I cancelled it. How do I get it back? Do I have to pay another $99? Please help!

    Hello Leslie Gottlieb

You may not need to pay another $99 right away, so the first step is to check whether your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription is actually canceled, or whether it is simply set to expire later.

    Please try these steps:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/ and sign in with the same Microsoft account used for the purchase.
    • Check whether Microsoft 365 Personal is still listed and whether it shows an expiration date or turn on recurring billing. If it does, that usually means the subscription remains usable until the date shown.
    • If the subscription appears active but the apps are not recognizing it, open a Microsoft 365 app and go to File > Account > Update License, then close and reopen the apps.

Feel free reply back to this post and update me on the situation, I'll be happy to help

Cancelling Copilot Pro should not permanently remove a still-valid Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, but restoring or refunding depends on how and where each subscription was purchased and cancelled.

Use these steps to recover access and avoid paying twice:

    1. Check which subscriptions are actually active or cancelled
Go to the Microsoft account dashboard Services page using the same Microsoft account used for the purchases:
    2. If Microsoft 365 Personal shows as cancelled or expired
      • If the subscription was purchased directly from Microsoft and was recently cancelled, check refund eligibility and cancellation status:
        • Follow the guidance under “Am I eligible for a Microsoft subscription refund?”: you must cancel first to see if a refund applies. Not all cancellations result in a refund.
        • If the subscription was purchased in Germany, cancellation can be managed via the dedicated flow: Cancel a Microsoft subscription acquired in Germany.
      • If the subscription is no longer active and no refund is available, a new purchase of Microsoft 365 Personal would be required to continue using it.
    3. If Copilot Pro was purchased through an app store (Apple/Google)
    4. If Microsoft 365 Personal was also purchased via an app store
      • Use the app store’s subscription list to confirm whether Microsoft 365 Personal is still active:
        • See “Find out which app you used to make the purchase” and then manage or restore the subscription from there.
      • If the subscription is active in the store but not reflected in the app, use Restore previous purchase in the Microsoft 365 app:
        1. Sign out of the Microsoft 365 app used for the in-app purchase.
        2. Close and reopen the app.
        3. Select Restore previous purchase on the Get started with Microsoft 365 screen.
    5. If the subscription was valid and access was lost unexpectedly
      • Because resolving account-specific billing or mistaken cancellation requires access to personal billing data, contact Microsoft Support directly from the account dashboard:
        • Start from the subscription/billing help flows under How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription and Contact Support.
      • Explain that cancelling Copilot Pro appears to have removed access to an already-paid Microsoft 365 Personal subscription and request restoration or correction rather than paying again.

If the system shows Microsoft 365 Personal as fully cancelled and outside any refund/restore window, continuing service will require purchasing Microsoft 365 Personal again.
