    Hello @Hennie

Good day! I hope you are doing well.

Based on your description, I understand that you are unable to activate Office 2024 after reinstalling it on a device, and you are receiving a message indicating that the activation limit has been reached, even though you are within the allowed number of devices.

Please let me know if I misunderstood any part of your issue or if there are additional details you’d like to share.

To help us provide the most accurate and effective solution, could you please share a bit more information about your setup:

    • Where the Office product was purchased (for example: Microsoft Store, a retail store, or a third‑party reseller)
    • How Office is being activated on the device (signing in with a Microsoft account or entering a 25‑character product key)
    • The exact Office 2024 edition you’re using
    • Whether this was a reinstall on the same device or a different one
    • The exact activation error message or error code shown

This additional context will help us better understand your environment and the steps already taken so we can tailor the guidance to resolve the issue effectively.

In the meantime, here are some basic checks you can try:

    • Confirm that you are signed in with the same Microsoft account that was used to purchase or redeem the Office license
    • Sign out of Office (File > Account), close the app, restart your device, and sign back in

I apologize if I’m not able to jump straight to a solution just yet. I want to avoid suggesting any steps that might be inaccurate or unhelpful for your specific situation. Once we have the details above, we’ll be able to assist you more effectively and guide you toward the appropriate resolution.

Looking forward to your response so we can get this sorted out for you together.

The error indicates that the activation limit for the license has been reached, even though only three devices are currently in use.

For Office one-time purchases (such as Office Home & Business, Home & Student, or Professional), each license is tied to a specific number of devices. When Windows is reinstalled or hardware changes, Office can see this as a new device and count it as an additional activation. This can trigger the "installation limit reached" or "maximum number of activations" message.

To use the license again on the reinstalled machine, the supported path is:

    1. Make sure Office is installed correctly on the new/reinstalled system.
    2. Activate by telephone so the license can be transferred to the new installation, as allowed by the Software License Terms.
    3. Uninstall or stop using Office on the old installation (which you already removed).

The documented process for moving Office to a different device is:

    1. Install Office on the new device (if not already installed).
    2. Use the Activate by telephone option during activation to complete activation on the new device.
    3. Ensure Office is uninstalled from the old device.

If activation by telephone is not offered or still fails, support from the licensing channel or Microsoft support is required to review and reset activations for that key.
