We have been approved by Microsoft as a Education patner. We are currently setting up our domain. When we went to get A1 licences we are getting a error code: 43881. Thanks

    Hi @Paidi O'Sé

The error code 43881 when trying to obtain Microsoft 365 A1 licenses typically appears when the education tenant setup is not fully completed or synchronized yet, even though partner approval has already been granted. This can happen during early domain or tenant configuration.

For my recommendation, here are the most common causes and next steps to check:

1/ Make sure that your education domain verification is fully completed in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Even if the partner's status is approved, licenses cannot be assigned until at least one domain is successfully verified and set as active for the tenant.

2/ Kindly check if there can be a backend propagation delay after Education Partner approval. In some cases, it takes 24–72 hours for the licensing system to recognize the tenant as eligible for A1 licenses.

If all of the above checks are correct and the error is still occurring, this indicates a backend licensing entitlement issue that cannot be resolved from the admin side. In this case, my recommendation is to create a new support ticket via Microsoft Admin Center: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn so that the support agent can review the issue more clearly.

Note: Please understand that as a forum moderator, my primary goal is to provide helpful guidance and support through general troubleshooting steps. While I don’t have access to internal systems or test devices required to resolve backend/account issues, I truly appreciate your understanding of these limitations.

I hope you find this information helpful. If anything is unclear, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Error 43881 when trying to purchase A1 licenses in the Microsoft 365/Office 365 portal aligns with known issues where purchases cannot be completed in the Office 365 portal.

Use the following steps to troubleshoot in the browser used for the purchase (the documented steps reference Internet Explorer, but the same concepts apply to current browsers):

    1. Open the browser’s Internet/Privacy/Security settings.
    2. Ensure that cookies are allowed (do not block all cookies). A “Medium”‑equivalent setting for Internet zone is recommended.
    3. If there is an advanced cookie configuration, allow first‑party cookies and do not block session cookies.
    4. Make sure any “protected mode”/enhanced security feature that the portal requires is enabled for both Internet and Local intranet zones (or, in modern browsers, ensure the Microsoft 365 portal is not being restricted by tracking‑prevention or similar add‑ons).
    5. Clear cookies and cache for the Microsoft 365/Office 365 portal domain, then close and reopen the browser and try the purchase again.

If the problem persists and you see repeated sign‑in prompts or generic “issue found” messages while purchasing A1 licenses, update the organization profile and admin user profile, then retry:

    1. In the Microsoft 365 admin portal, edit the company profile and ensure the following fields contain valid data: address, city, state, ZIP/postal code, and phone.
    2. Edit the admin user’s profile and confirm contact details are complete and valid.
    3. Sign out of the portal completely and sign back in.
    4. Try the purchase again.

If the error continues after these steps, use the trial/subscription path as a temporary workaround while finalizing the purchase, or contact Microsoft support for tenant‑specific investigation.
