Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Several common issues can cause this generic “check that all fields are correct or try a different card” error during Azure sign-up or when adding payment info, even when card details are correct. Work through these specific checks and fixes:
- Verify card type and eligibility
- Virtual or prepaid cards are not accepted for Azure subscriptions. If any of the cards used are virtual or prepaid, they will always fail.
- The card must be supported in the selected country/region. Azure only accepts certain card types per region (for example, some regions only support credit cards, and American Express is not supported in India).
- If the card is from a different country/region than the one selected in the sign-up form, it can be rejected. Ensure the card is issued in the same country/region selected in the About you section.
- Check card status and bank restrictions
- The card might be inactive, blocked, or restricted for online or international transactions.
- Contact the bank or card issuer and confirm:
- International/online transactions are enabled.
- The card is active and not blocked.
- There is sufficient available balance/credit.
- Recurring payments are allowed.
- Ensure all card details exactly match bank records
- The name, billing address, and CVV must match exactly what the bank has on file.
- Double-check:
- Card number and expiration date
- Name on card (including middle initials or punctuation, if any)
- Billing address (street, city, state, ZIP/postal code, country/region)
- Browser and sign-up flow issues
- If the error appears during “Identity verification by card” in the Azure sign-up flow:
- Make sure third-party cookies are allowed in the browser, as they are required to complete identity verification.
- If the progress bar hangs or the page behaves oddly, enable cookies, refresh the page, or restart the browser and try again.
- If the portal seems stuck or sessions keep expiring when changing payment info:
- Sign out of all Azure sessions.
- Open a private/incognito/InPrivate window in the browser.
- Try the sign-up or card entry again from that private session.
- Card not accepted for your region
- If the card type is not accepted in the selected country/region, it will fail regardless of correctness.
- Confirm with the bank that the card supports international usage and online payments, and check Azure’s supported payment options for the region.
- If the problem continues
- After verifying all of the above (card type, region, bank status, exact details, browser settings) and the error persists with multiple valid cards, create an Azure billing support request so a billing engineer can review the account and sign-up status. Billing support is free.
