They eat up more than 200Gb of space from my drive, or around 40% of my total drive space. Im wondering if it's possible to delete them without harming the system. Taking up 200Gb is a bit problematic since I only have 500Gb of storage space on my laptop.Screenshot 2026-03-30 203710

The files inside the Installer folder cannot and should not be deleted manually, they are required for the software installed on your PC.

There is no native method to clean that folder, the only safe method to clear out data from that folder is to use a widely available free utility named PatchCleaner, it may be able to remove redundant data from that folder.

Files in C:\Windows\Installer must not be deleted manually. They are Windows Installer (.msi/.msp) cache files that are required for:

    • Repairing installed applications
    • Applying future updates
    • Uninstalling applications and some Windows components

Deleting them directly with File Explorer or a third‑party tool can break installed programs and Windows updates, and may prevent clean uninstallation or repair.

To safely free disk space on Windows 11 instead of touching C:\Windows\Installer, use the built‑in cleanup tools:

    1. Storage Sense / Cleanup recommendations
      1. Select Start > Settings > System > Storage > Cleanup recommendations.
      2. Review Temporary files, Large or unused files, Files synced to the cloud, and Unused apps.
      3. Select items to remove, then choose Clean up for each section.
    2. Delete or move personal files
      1. Open File Explorer and check folders under This PC such as Videos, Music, Pictures, and Downloads.
      2. Sort by size to find large files, then delete what is not needed or move it to an external drive (USB/SD card).
      3. Empty the Recycle Bin to actually reclaim the space.
    3. Disk Cleanup (if preferred)
      1. In the taskbar search box, type disk cleanup and open it.
      2. Select the system drive (usually C:).
      3. Select the categories of temporary/system files to delete.
      4. Optionally choose Clean up system files to remove additional update‑related data that Windows considers safe.

These supported methods clean up temporary and obsolete system data while preserving the installer cache that Windows and applications still rely on.
