    Hi Remona Moore,

I understand how stressful this situation is, especially being locked out of your laptop for a long time and facing troubles with PIN, password, BitLocker, and product keys at the same time.

First, it’s important to clarify that Microsoft 365 / Outlook.com accounts do not provide a Windows 10 product key. Any key shown when signing up for Microsoft 365 is only for Office apps. HP laptops with Windows 10 are normally activated automatically by a digital license built into the device hardware, not by a key stored in your Microsoft account.

Secondly, from your description, I understand that you're locked out with BitLocker. Once it is active, Windows cannot load or be repaired unless the recovery key is entered. Since it is a 48‑digit numeric code, only the number keys (and Fn row) are needed, so the keyboard may not actually be faulty. You can test this by pressing the number keys.

If your keyboard is still working as designed, the next thing you need to do is find your BitLocker key. Please go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey and sign in with every possible Microsoft account you or others may have used on the device (personal, secondary personal, work, school, etc.).

    • If the recovery key is listed there, it can be used to regain access.
    • If you ever used a work or school account before, contact IT.
    • Check your cloud service (e.g. OneDrive) for key or BitLocker files, in case they were auto backup.

If you can't find the key at all or it was never backed up, then access to the data on the drive is not possible. In that case, the only supported way to use the laptop again is to perform a factory reset or clean reinstall of Windows 10. This will erase all data on the device but will bring your PC back to working condition.

I know this is a very difficult situation, especially when important data may be involved. If there are any other details of the situation, e.g. the exact error message on your screen or picture of the screen, feel free to share! I'd be helpful for further analyzing the issue.

The product key error and sign-in issues indicate an activation and account/access problem rather than just a PIN/password issue.

For the product key problem on Windows 10 or Office:

    1. If the Office or Windows product key is not working or is reported as changed/incorrect, and it was purchased separately (for example, from a third-party seller), the key may be stolen, fraudulently obtained, or blocked. In that case, the correct action is to contact the seller and request a refund, because blocked or fraudulent keys cannot be reactivated.
    2. If the key was damaged or lost but there is valid proof of purchase, Microsoft support may be able to replace the product key or offer other options. Use the official Microsoft support contact page to reach support agents: Microsoft support.
    3. If the key was purchased as a standalone key online, review Microsoft’s safer shopping guidance, especially the advice to “Beware of Product Keys Sold Separately,” to ensure that any replacement key is genuine.
    4. If the product key error appears when trying to redeem at Office.com/setup, follow the guidance in the “Get help with product key errors on Office.com/setup” article referenced in the documentation.

If the device was previously activated with a genuine Windows license and linked to a Microsoft account, signing in with that same Microsoft account after repair or reinstall can allow Windows to reactivate using the digital license, without re-entering the product key. If sign-in is not possible due to PIN/password problems, use the Microsoft account recovery and sign-in help pages referenced below to restore account access first.

If, after following the documented guidance, the product key still cannot be used or the device remains locked out, the next step is to contact Microsoft support directly through the official support channels for further assistance.
