Magic Jack should auto run when plugged into a USB port on a windows 11 PC.

When I do that, the Magic Jack icon opens on the desktop with red text on it saying to insert into a USB port. Well, I have tried every port I have with no luck.

So I manually downloaded the Magic Jack software and then tried. Now Magic Jaci will load but there is no sound or dial tone. I have gone into the Magic Jack settings and ensured that the Tiger Jet sound and record are selected. I am also not able to switch between head phone and telephone in that menu. I have also gone into the sound settings on the PC and made sure they too had the Tiger Jet as the microphone and sound. I am not sure at this point what I need to do. I have uninstalled, restarted multiple times to no luck. I am still able to plug it into my Windows 10 laptop and it works fine???

    Hi Larry,

Thanks for posting your question here. I understand that you're unable to run Magic Jack on your Windows 11 PC using USB port. Since the MagicJack works normally on your Windows 10 laptop, the issue is caused by driver compatibility changes.

Please do this, if you haven't done yet: You can try plugging the MagicJack directly into a USB 2.0 port, disabling USB power saving in Device Manager → USB Root Hub → Power Management, and running the MagicJack application in Windows 10 compatibility mode as an administrator.

For now, the most dependable options are to continue using it on your Windows 10 laptop, use the MagicJack mobile app, or run it on an older or secondary PC with Windows 10.

Follow these steps on the Windows 11 PC to troubleshoot Magic Jack audio and USB recognition, based only on supported Windows audio/driver guidance:

    1. Verify Windows sees the Magic Jack audio device
      1. Right‑click Start and select Device Manager.
      2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      3. Confirm that the Magic Jack/Tiger Jet audio device appears and that there are no warning icons.
      4. If it shows an error or doesn’t appear at all, try a different USB port again and continue with driver steps below.
    2. Run the Windows audio troubleshooter
      1. Select Start > Settings > System.
      2. Select Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      3. In the Audio section, select Run and follow the prompts.
The troubleshooter can automatically detect and fix common playback/recording issues that may prevent dial tone or sound.
    3. Check output and input selection in Windows 11
      1. Select the Speakers icon on the taskbar.
      2. Select the arrow to the right of the volume slider (Select a sound output).
      3. Choose the Magic Jack/Tiger Jet device as the active output.
      4. In Settings > System > Sound, confirm both Output and Input are set to the Magic Jack/Tiger Jet device when using it.
    4. Check physical connections and volume/mute
      1. Make sure the Magic Jack is firmly plugged into a working USB port. If using a hub, test by plugging directly into the PC.
      2. Verify that speakers/headset/phone connected to Magic Jack are firmly plugged in and powered on.
      3. Ensure no mute is enabled and turn up all volume controls (Windows volume, Magic Jack app volume, and any hardware volume on speakers/headset).
    5. Turn off audio enhancements for the Magic Jack device
      1. Go to Start > Settings > Sound.
      2. Under Output, select the Magic Jack/Tiger Jet device.
      3. Scroll to Advanced settings and set Audio enhancements to Off.
      4. Test again for dial tone and call audio.
    6. Update or reinstall the Magic Jack/Tiger Jet audio driver
      1. Open Device Manager.
      2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      3. Right‑click the Magic Jack/Tiger Jet audio device and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers and complete the wizard.
      4. If no newer driver is found or the issue persists, right‑click the device again and select Uninstall device. Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device, then select Uninstall.
      5. Restart the PC (Start > Power > Restart). Windows will attempt to reinstall the audio driver automatically.
      6. If problems started after a recent update, use Device Manager to roll back the driver if that option is available on the device’s Properties > Driver tab.
    7. Ensure Windows is fully updated (drivers and system)
      1. Open Settings.
      2. Select Windows Update.
      3. Select Check for updates and install all available updates.
Updated system and device drivers can resolve USB and audio compatibility issues that affect devices like Magic Jack.

If, after these steps, Magic Jack still shows “insert into a USB port” only on the Windows 11 PC but works on Windows 10, the issue is likely driver/compatibility on that specific Windows 11 installation; continue using the working Windows 10 system or contact Magic Jack support for a Windows‑11‑specific driver or firmware update.
