My Samsung phone has a "my files". I save downloaded pages here. Normally, I click on a file and it opens. Now, it will not open. But I have noticed that if i click on the file, then come out, then open my "word" app, sometimes the file opens. And sometimes it won't, and states "Microsoft cannot open this file. Change connected settings".

Help please!

    Hello Jennifer Litchfield

I can see that you’re having trouble opening your downloaded files on your Samsung phone.

This can happen if the Word app on Android cannot fully read the file, or if the phone is having trouble passing the file from My Files to Word.

Here are some troubleshooting methods for you to try:

    • Make sure you update the Word app from the Play Store.
    • Open the Word app first, then use Open/Browse to locate the downloaded file instead of opening it directly from My Files.
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Word > Permissions and make sure Word has permission to access files/media.
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Word > Storage, then clear the cache/data and restart the phone.
    • If only one file is affected, try opening it in Word on a PC or on Word for the web, save a new copy, and then try opening that new copy on the phone. Some files contain elements Word for Android can’t read properly until a new copy is saved.

Feel free reply back to this post and update me on this issue, I'll be happy to help.
