I am not getting answers that I need. All my options on my junk mail have disappeared. I can no longer delete. I cannot move an email to my inbox from my junk mail. I cannot report phishing. Where have those options gone to? I am using Hotmail. How can I talk to a live person?

    Dear Mary Quinlan

Thank you for posting your question to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I'm sorry to hear that your junk mail options have disappeared and that you are having trouble getting the answers you need. I appreciate you reaching out for assistance.

Let's try a few steps to resolve this, starting with the most common solutions.

Step 1: Test in a Private Browser Window

    • Press Ctrl + Shift + N (for Chrome/Edge) or Ctrl + Shift + P (for Firefox) to open a new private/incognito window.
    • Log into Hotmail in that private window and check your junk mail.

If the options appear correctly in the private window, the problem is your browser cache or an extension. You will need to clear your primary browser's cache (Ctrl + Shift + Delete) and temporarily disable third-party extensions to isolate the culprit.

Step 2: Check Your Zoom and Window Size

Sometimes, if the browser is zoomed in or not fully expanded, the options menu collapses to save space.

    • Check for a three-dot menu (...) or a downward-facing arrow (v) on the top right side of the email pane to see if your missing options are nested inside.
    • Reset your browser's zoom level by pressing Ctrl + 0 (or Cmd + 0 on Mac) to ensure it is set to exactly 100%.
    • Make sure your browser window is fully maximized on your monitor to see if the full ribbon expands back into view.

    Step 3: Isolate the Issue

    • Navigate to a different folder (like your Inbox or Sent Items) to see if the action ribbon appears there.
    • If the buttons are only missing in your Junk folder, it is likely a localized folder glitch. If they are missing completely across your entire account, your account interface might be in a restricted state.

You mentioned wanting to speak with a live agent. If the steps above do not bring your options back, this will require a closer look at your backend account provisioning. Please reach out to Microsoft Live Chat Support team so they can investigate and manually assist you.

You can find them by clicking on this link and following the directions below:

    1. Visit this website: Contact Us - Microsoft Support
    2. Type your problems in the search box there.
    3. Now click on Get Help > Contact Support below.
    4. Go to the Products & Services tab and choose Windows or Microsoft 365 and Office
    5. On the Category tab, choose Other accessories
    6. Go to Confirm.
    7. Choose to chat with a support agent in your web browser.

Note: The contact support team only works at certain times, so if the last window says it's not there, try opening it again the next day.

I hope these steps provide some immediate relief and guidance. I recognize the importance of your email account to you, and I'm here to help you through these troubleshooting steps.

Please let me know how these suggestions work for you, or if you'd like assistance in navigating Microsoft's support channels.

In Outlook.com/Hotmail, missing options like Delete, Move to Inbox, or Report phishing in Junk Email can be caused by a temporary Outlook.com issue or UI problem. When this happens, use the current workarounds and then contact support.

    1. Try basic UI recovery steps
    • Sign out of Outlook.com and close all browser windows.
    • Open a fresh browser session (or an incognito/private window) and sign back in.
    • Check the Junk Email folder again to see if the Delete/Move/Report options have reappeared.
    1. Manually delete junk items If the Delete button in Junk is not working or not visible, this is a known Outlook.com issue. Blocking a sender in Junk does not delete the message; it must be deleted manually. If the UI is partially available, select the messages and try deleting them again after signing out/in as above.
    2. Contact Outlook.com support (live chat) To reach a live support agent for Outlook.com/Hotmail:
    • Go to Outlook.com and sign in.
    • Select Help (the ? icon or Help on the menu bar).
    • In the Help pane that opens, type a description of the problem (for example, “Junk mail delete button missing”).
    • If the suggested articles do not resolve the issue, scroll to the bottom and select Yes under Still need help?.
    • Choose Chat with a support agent in your web browser and fill in the requested details.
    • This opens a live chat where a support agent can investigate the missing Junk folder options on the account.

If the Help pane or “Contact support” buttons do not open:

    • Ensure already signed in to Outlook.com in a browser tab.
    • Click the ? at the top of the Outlook.com window to open the Help pane again.
    • If still unable to sign in, go to Account support using the link provided in the Outlook.com issues article and follow the instructions there.
    1. If Outlook.com self-help still does not solve it If the in-product Help path does not work or the issue persists after trying the above, use the general Microsoft support entry point:
    • Go to the Microsoft support site and enter your problem (for example, “Outlook.com junk mail delete button missing”).
    • Follow the prompts to reach support options for Outlook.com.

These steps connect to a real support agent (via chat or callback, depending on availability) who can check the specific Hotmail account and current Outlook.com status.
