    Dear @Isolina Ricci,
I understand you want detailed guidance on how to close your Microsoft 365 business account and release all related emails, websites, and domains. I will keep the steps below clear and non‑technical.

Below is a detailed but simplified step‑by‑step guide, including how to remove the payment method.

Before you begin: Please save anything you want to keep, such as: Emails, Files in OneDrive or SharePoint, Website content

Once the business account is closed, this data cannot be recovered.

Step 1: Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center

Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Sign in using the main account you used when you created the business account.

Make sure you can see the admin dashboard.

Step 2: Remove users and email addresses

Go to Users > Active users.

Delete all user accounts that are listed.

If you see any shared mailboxes, delete those as well.

This step removes business email addresses from use.

    Step 3: Cancel subscriptions

Go to Billing > Your products.

    Select each Microsoft 365 subscription.

Cancel the subscription or turn off recurring billing.

If a subscription cannot be canceled immediately, it will end automatically at the end of its billing period. This is expected.

Step 4: Remove the payment method

Go to Billing > Payment methods.

Select the saved credit card or bank account.

    Remove the payment method.

If you are unable to remove the payment method, please make sure there are:

    No active subscriptions

    No outstanding or pending charges

    Step 5: Remove your domain

    Go to Settings > Domains.

Select your domain (for example, yourcompany.com).

If you see an error message, return to the earlier steps to confirm nothing is still using the domain.

    Once clear, remove the domain.

This releases your email addresses and website URLs.

Step 6: Close the business account

After users, subscriptions, payment methods, and domains are removed, the business account can be closed from Entra Admin Center, please follow the step from this link Delete a tenant in Microsoft Entra ID

To fully close a Microsoft 365 business account and release associated services, the Global Administrator must follow these steps in order. Before starting, back up any data (email, files, website content) that needs to be preserved, because closing the account will eventually delete it.

    1. Confirm admin role and billing type
    • Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center with the Global Administrator account.
    • Verify that the signed-in account is a Global Administrator. For role details, see About admin roles.
    • Check what type of billing account is in use (for example, Microsoft Customer Agreement) using the guidance in Find out what type of billing account you have. This affects how subscriptions can be canceled.
    1. Delete all users except the Global Administrator All user accounts (including shared mailboxes and any non-admin users) must be removed before the tenant can be deleted.
    • If users are cloud-only:
      • In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Users > Active users.
      • Delete all users except the Global Administrator account that will perform the closure.
      • For detailed steps, see User management admin: Delete one or more users.
    • If many users exist and PowerShell is preferred:
      • Use the Remove-MgUser Microsoft Graph PowerShell cmdlet to bulk delete users.
    • If accounts are synchronized from on-premises Active Directory:
      • First turn off directory synchronization.
      • Delete the user accounts from Active Directory.
      • Then follow Bulk delete users in Microsoft Entra ID to remove them from the cloud directory.
    1. Cancel or let all subscriptions expire Every active subscription must be canceled or allowed to expire.
    • In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to the billing section and cancel each active subscription. Follow the steps in Cancel your subscription.
    • If the billing account type is Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA) and the subscription is outside the cancellation window:
      • Turn off recurring billing for each subscription as described in Renew your subscription.
      • Wait until each subscription reaches the end of its term and expires automatically.
    • Ensure there are no remaining active subscriptions (including add-ons) before proceeding.
    1. Disable multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all remaining accounts except the active Global Administrator This step helps avoid sign-in complications when performing the final tenant deletion.
    • In the Microsoft 365 admin center:
      1. Go to Users > Active users.
      2. Select Multi-factor authentication.
      3. On the MFA page, disable MFA for all accounts except the Global Administrator account currently in use.
    • Alternatively, use PowerShell to disable MFA for multiple users as described in Change state using PowerShell.
    1. Delete the Microsoft Entra ID tenant (organization) Deleting the tenant is the final step that closes the Microsoft business account and releases the organization in Microsoft’s systems.
    • Follow the procedure in Delete a Microsoft Entra tenant - Microsoft Entra.
    • All prerequisites must be satisfied:
      • No remaining users except the Global Administrator.
      • No active subscriptions.
      • No blocking resources (for example, enterprise apps, domains, or other dependencies) as described in the tenant deletion guidance.

After the tenant is successfully deleted, the Microsoft business account is closed and all associated data (including email and hosted services under that tenant) will be deleted according to Microsoft’s data retention processes. Any custom domains (for example, website URLs and email domains) that were added to the tenant can then be reused elsewhere once they are fully released from the tenant.

If a personal Microsoft account (not a business/organization account) also needs to be closed, use the Microsoft Account Close Portal and follow the steps to mark the personal account for closure. The account will be closed after the selected reopen window (30 or 60 days), and data will then be deleted as described in How to close your Microsoft account.
