I had purchased a license earlier, but unfortunately, I formatted my laptop and lost the license key.

I kindly request you to help me retrieve my license key at the earliest. Please let me know if you need any details from my side to process this request

Did you purchase the Windows licence directly from Microsoft or from a 3rd party retailer?

Open the Settings App, then go to System - Activation.

Click the Troubleshoot button, then select 'I changed my hardware' (even though you did not change your hardware).

Are you able to use that process to reactivate Windows?

For Windows 11 Home used at home, the license is usually a digital license rather than a separate product key, especially if it was a free upgrade or purchased through the Microsoft Store.

Use these steps depending on how Windows 11 was obtained:

1. If Windows 11 was a free upgrade from Windows 10/7/8.1
   • The device should have a digital license instead of a product key.
   • After reinstalling Windows 11 on the same device, connect to the internet and sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used before. Activation should occur automatically using the digital license.
2. If Windows 11/10 Pro upgrade was bought in the Microsoft Store app
   • A digital license (not a key) is stored with the Microsoft account used for the purchase.
   • Sign in to Windows with that same Microsoft account; activation should use the stored digital license.
3. If Windows originally came preinstalled on the laptop (Windows 7/8.1 era)
   • For Windows 7/8.1, the product key is usually on a sticker on the device or on a card/label in the box the PC came in.
   • If that key is lost and cannot be found on the device or packaging, contact the device manufacturer for assistance.
4. If a separate Windows license was purchased (boxed copy or similar) and the key is lost
   • The product key is normally on a label or card inside the box or in the purchase confirmation email.
   • If the key is lost and cannot be located, contact the seller or Microsoft Support with proof of purchase to see if they can help recover or replace it.
