The pc health check says 100% compatible with win 11 and i cleared more than enough space. it still makes it about 60% of the way thru the update and then rolls back the changes and says it failed

    Hi Jay,

    Please run this: https://aka.ms/GetPCHealthCheckApp

Your PC is an 8th Gen CPU, so might not be

    fully compatible with Windows 11.

    Hi Jay Wolf,

    Thank you for reaching out.

The install error 0xC190020E when attempting to install Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.8138 typically indicates that the device does not have enough free space available on the system drive to complete a feature update. Insider Preview feature updates require additional temporary disk space during installation.

In addition to Q&A Assist's answer, here is the verified list of checking steps that you can try in this situation:

1, Free up space on the system drive (C:)

    • Open Disk Cleanup > select Clean up system files
    • Check items such as Temporary files, Windows Update Cleanup, and Previous Windows installations
    • Confirm and complete the cleanup

    2, Use Storage Sense

    • Go to Settings > System > Storage
    • Enable Storage Sense
    • Select Temporary files and remove non‑essential items

    3, Temporarily move large files

    • Move large files (videos, ISO files, archives) to an external drive or cloud storage
    • You can move them back after the update completes

4, Restart and retry the update

    • Restart the PC
    • Go to Settings > Windows Update and retry installing the update

    If the issue persists:

    • You may pause Insider updates temporarily and wait for a newer build
    • Alternatively, consider installing a newer Insider build using official installation media after backing up important data

Once sufficient space is available, the update should proceed normally and Windows will automatically reclaim temporary installation files afterward.

Error 0xc190020e indicates that there is not enough free disk space to install the Windows 11 Insider Preview feature update.

To resolve this on the Dell Latitude 3301:

    1. Free up disk space
      • Remove unnecessary files (downloads, large videos, ISO files, old installers).
      • Empty Recycle Bin.
      • Uninstall apps that are no longer needed.
      • Move personal files (documents, pictures, videos) to an external drive or cloud storage.
      • Use the built-in cleanup tools:
        • Open Settings > System > Storage and use Storage Sense or Temporary files cleanup.
        • Optionally, use Disk Cleanup to remove system temporary files and previous Windows installations if present.
    2. Ensure enough space for a feature update
      • For major upgrades, significantly more free space than normal cumulative updates is required. If the device has a small SSD, aim to free tens of GB of space where possible.
    3. Retry the update
      • After freeing space, restart the PC.
      • Go to Settings > Windows Update and retry installing the Windows 11 Insider Preview Feature Update (26220.8138).

If the update continues to fail after freeing substantial space, consider pausing Insider updates until a later build or performing a clean install of a newer build using external installation media, ensuring important files are backed up first.
