    Hi @Boyd, Barry (DMV)

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

In Classic Outlook for Windows, there is no built-in feature to directly search for folders by name. However, you can locate a missing folder by searching for an email that was previously stored in that folder. When you open the message, Outlook will show its current folder location, which can help determine whether the folder was moved or nested under another folder.

To help narrow down the issue, please provide the following details:

-Are you signing in with a personal Microsoft account (for example, @outlook.com or @hotmail.com) or with a work/school account?

-What type of account is configured in Outlook (POP, IMAP, or Exchange)?

-Is the missing folder a default folder? If so, please refer to Default folder is missing in Outlook and Outlook on the web - Outlook | Microsoft Learn

-Did you check Outlook on the web (OWA) to see if the folder is still visible there?

-Have you checked the Deleted Items folder? Expand it by clicking the arrow next to it, as shown in the example image, to see if the folder was accidentally deleted.

-Also check whether the folder may have been moved and is now a subfolder under another folder.

Please know that while our initial response might not resolve the issue right away, your input is incredibly valuable. With a bit more detail, we’ll work together to find the best solution for you.

In classic Outlook for Windows, a “lost” folder is usually either:

    • Hidden under another folder, or
    • Accidentally moved (for example, into the root of the mailbox or another folder), or
    • Deleted (and possibly recoverable).

    Try these approaches in order.

    1. Use Advanced Find to locate items from the missing folder If messages that were in the missing folder are still in the mailbox, Advanced Find can help locate them and show where they currently reside.

For Outlook 2010 and later (classic Outlook):

    1. Select the Inbox folder.
    2. Click into the Instant Search box so the Search tab appears on the ribbon.
    3. On the Search tab, select Search Tools > Advanced Find.
    4. In Look for, choose Any type of Outlook item.
    5. Select Browse.
    6. Select only the root folder (typically the email address at the top of the folder list).
    7. Clear Search subfolders, then select OK.
    8. Select Find Now.
    9. Review the results and look at the In Folder column to see where items are located.
    10. If you find items that belonged to the missing folder, right‑click them and choose Move > Other Folder, then pick or recreate the folder you want and select OK.

For Outlook 2007, similar steps apply via Tools > Instant Search > Advanced Find.

    1. Check Deleted Items and Recoverable Items If the folder was deleted, its contents may still be recoverable.

    First, check Deleted Items:

    1. In classic Outlook, select the Deleted Items folder.
    2. Look for the missing folder. If found, drag it back to the desired location in the folder list.

If it is not there, use Recover Deleted Items From Server (if supported by the account):

    1. Make sure Outlook is online and connected to the mail server.
    2. Select the Deleted Items folder.
    3. On the Home tab, select Recover Deleted Items From Server.
    4. In the dialog, select items that belonged to the missing folder.
    5. Select Restore Selected Items, then OK.
    6. Restored items will typically return to Deleted Items; from there, move them into a new or existing folder.

    Note:

    • If Deleted Items is replaced by Trash, or there is no Recover Deleted Items command, the account may not support server‑side recovery.
    • Entire folders that were permanently deleted cannot be restored as folders, but individual messages can be recovered using the Recoverable Items steps above.
    1. Use Search Folders to surface items If the folder is misplaced but items still exist, a Search Folder can help you find and work with those messages:
    2. In classic Outlook, create a Search Folder (for example, Unread Mail or a folder filtered by sender, subject, or keywords that match what was in the missing folder).
    3. Use the Search Folder to locate messages and then move them into a new folder structure as needed.

If none of these methods surface the folder or its items, the data may no longer be present in the mailbox or data file and may require restoration from backup.
