Scanning from an HP LaserJet MFP on Windows 11 can fail or behave unexpectedly if the HP software/driver is not working correctly or if Windows has issues with the print/scan components. The context provides several patterns and fixes that can be applied.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Remove and reinstall the HP printer software/driver
      • Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
      • Select the HP LaserJet MFP and choose Remove.
      • If there are multiple entries for the same device, remove them all.
      • Restart Windows.
      • Download and install the latest HP software/driver for Windows 11 for the LaserJet MFP from HP’s support site (full feature or basic driver, not just the built‑in driver).
      • After installation, try scanning again using HP’s scan app or Windows’ built‑in Windows Fax and Scan / Scan app.
    2. If the device stopped working after a Windows feature update
The context shows that a Windows feature update can break HP V4 drivers and make printing/scanning fail with errors like “Element not found.” In that case, rolling back the problematic update and then reinstalling may help:
      • Go to Settings → Windows Update → Update history.
      • Under Uninstall updates, remove the most recent feature update (for example, a KB that upgraded to a new Windows 11 build) if it coincides with when scanning stopped working.
      • Restart the PC.
      • Reinstall the HP driver/software and test scanning.
      • If needed, manually re‑apply the latest Windows 11 feature update from the official Windows 11 download page and then reinstall the HP V4 driver again, as described in the context.
    3. If printing works but scanning does not
The context for HP multifunction devices shows that printing can work while scanning fails because HP’s special scanning services/libraries are missing or broken. In that case:
      • Ensure the full HP device software (not only the basic print driver) is installed for Windows 11.
      • If already installed, uninstall all HP printer software from Settings → Apps → Installed apps, restart, and then reinstall the latest HP package.
      • After reinstall, test scanning again.
    4. If the device is networked (Wi‑Fi/Ethernet)
      • Make sure the printer is powered on and connected to the same network as the PC.
      • In Printers & scanners, remove any old entries for the device and then use Add device to re‑add it.
      • Prefer adding it via its network name/IP as offered by Windows or HP’s installer.
      • Once added, use the HP software to scan; scanning over the network relies on HP services, so a clean reinstall is often required if they are broken.
    5. If scanning from the device panel is not working
For some HP MFPs, “Scan to computer” from the printer’s front panel only works when HP’s software and services are running on the PC. If that fails:
      • Try starting the scan from Windows instead (HP scan app or Windows Fax and Scan).
      • If that works, reconfigure “Scan to computer” in the HP software so the device can send scans directly.

If, after these steps, scanning still does not work, the most effective next action based on the context is a full removal of the printer and HP software, restart, reinstall of the latest HP package, and (if the problem started after a specific Windows update) temporarily uninstalling that update and re‑applying it as described.
