Hang on to your product key, and try again later. If this happens again, contact support.

The error message indicates a problem redeeming or converting the preinstalled Microsoft 365 offer, not a problem with the apps themselves. Use these steps to get Microsoft 365 working on the new laptop.

    1. Confirm what was actually included with the PC
      • If the PC only came with a trial of Microsoft 365 Family, there is no separate product key from the manufacturer. In that case, start a trial or purchase a subscription instead of entering a key.
      • If a paid Microsoft 365 product was included with the PC, the license is usually a digital product key tied to Windows activation, not a printed key.
    2. Check for a digital product key (paid Office/Microsoft 365 included)
      • Make sure Windows on the new laptop is activated:
        1. On the Windows taskbar, in the Type here to search box, type Activation.
        2. Select See if Windows is activated (or Activation in the results).
        3. Under Windows activation, confirm it shows Windows is activated.
      • If Windows was just activated, wait up to 30 minutes, then open Word or another Office app again and follow the prompts to activate the included offer.
      • These steps address cases where activation fails on new PCs until Windows activation completes.
    3. If the PC only has a trial and no product key
      • When seeing a Let’s get started screen with options to try, buy, or activate Microsoft 365, that usually means the PC has a 1‑month trial of Microsoft 365 Family preinstalled and no product key from the manufacturer.
      • In that case:
        • Start the trial, or
        • Purchase Microsoft 365, then sign in with the Microsoft account used for the purchase. No key entry is required.
    4. If a separate product key card was purchased
      • If there is a physical product key card, carefully scratch off the silver foil on the back to reveal the key in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
      • Redeem the key at the correct site for the product (for example, Microsoft 365 for business keys must be redeemed on the business key page, not on the consumer setup page).
      • If the key does not work on the documented sites, it may be a volume license key; in that case, contact the organization/administrator that provided it.
    5. If the error persists
      • Because the error mentions a conversion or currency/country mismatch, and the context only covers generic key and activation issues, contact Microsoft Support so they can check the subscription offer and region on the account and the device.

    Hi,

The message suggests a country mismatch.

    ConversionBlockedCurrencyCountryMismatch

Please make sure the country is correctly set at https://account.microsoft.com/profile and Windows Settings.
