Hello,

My Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server has been stuck in an "Updating" state for over 7 hours following scheduled maintenance.

Server Details

  • Server name: orcana-dev

Resource group: orcana

Region: East US (Availability Zone 1)

Tier: Burstable / Standard_B1ms

PostgreSQL version: 16

High Availability: Disabled

Storage: 32 GiB (14% used)

CPU usage prior to outage: ~17%

Resource Health Status

Availability state: Unavailable

Reason: Planned

Since: 2026-03-31T09:41:06Z

Message: "The scheduled maintenance for your Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server is taking longer than expected. The server will be available as soon as the maintenance task completes."

Additional Context

No manual operations were initiated.

Maintenance window is set to default (no custom window configured).

Activity logs show no errors—only the ongoing update operation.

This issue is currently blocking all development work.

Expected downtime for planned maintenance is documented as 60–120 seconds, which has been significantly exceeded.

Questions

  1. Is there a known capacity or infrastructure issue in East US that could be causing this delay?
  2. Is there any way to force completion or roll back the stuck maintenance operation?

Thank you.

    Hi Reehan Shah,
We have performed a restart of the VM, and the server is now in a Succeeded state. The service is currently up and running from our end.

Could you please confirm if everything is working as expected on your side? If you are still experiencing any issues, feel free to let us know and we will be happy to assist further.
