Bought a new computer with Windows 11 Pro, and I can't send or receive emails with my subscription Office 365 version of Outlook. Outlook on my old PC, with Windows 10. What do I do?

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Just to clarify, this isn’t related to your Windows 11 Pro license. Outlook email depends on your Microsoft 365 account and how it’s set up.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Are you using the Outlook desktop app from your Office 365 subscription?
    2. When did this start, right after setting up the new PC?
    3. Do you get any error when sending, or just no emails coming in?

    Please check this:

    • Open Outlook
    • Go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings
    • Is your email account listed there?

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

Work through these steps on the new Windows 11 PC to get Outlook sending and receiving mail:

    1. Confirm internet connectivity
      • Open Microsoft Edge or another browser.
      • Browse to http://www.microsoft.com or http://www.bing.com.
      • If these sites do not load, fix the network first using the guidance in Fix network connection issues in Windows.
    2. Check for sync issues in Outlook (classic Outlook on the new PC)
    3. Verify the account password in Outlook
If the email account password was changed at any point (for example, via the email provider’s website), update it in Outlook on the new PC:
      • In classic Outlook, ensure the account is using the current password.
      • If prompted to sign in, enter the correct password.
      • If the provider requires an app password and Outlook shows a message such as “Please create an app password for Outlook on your email provider's site”:
        1. Go to the email provider’s site and generate an app password.
        2. Copy that app password and paste it into Outlook when prompted.
      • For setup details, see Add an email account to Outlook for Windows.
    4. Confirm Outlook is the correct (classic) version and licensed
      • Since this is a Microsoft 365 subscription, ensure the installed Outlook is the desktop Outlook for Microsoft 365 and not the new Outlook preview if you are using features that require classic Outlook.
      • If Outlook shows licensing or activation issues, resolve those first (for example, by signing in with the Microsoft 365 subscription account).
      • If issues persist, use the Outlook troubleshooters described in Issues sending and receiving email (for classic Outlook only).
    5. Run the classic Outlook troubleshooters
      • Go to the Classic Outlook troubleshooters page and select the troubleshooter that matches the issue (send/receive problems, profile issues, etc.).
      • Follow the prompts to automatically diagnose and repair common configuration problems.
    6. Repair Outlook and/or the Outlook profile if needed
If Outlook still cannot send or receive mail:
    7. Check antivirus email scanning
      • Some antivirus products block email send/receive if they detect issues.
      • If an antivirus is installed, consult its help desk or documentation, and temporarily disable email scanning (not real-time protection) to test whether Outlook can send/receive.
    8. If using the new Outlook for Windows
      • If the new Outlook toggle is turned on and send/receive still fails, follow Troubleshoot Outlook for Windows issues:
        1. Restart new Outlook via Task Manager (end the Microsoft Outlook task, then reopen).
        2. If needed, uninstall and reinstall the new Outlook app as described there.
      • For persistent issues in new Outlook, consider switching back to classic Outlook on the new PC and testing send/receive there.
    9. Escalate if problems persist
