In Windows 11 Pro the windows installer has 1,125 items in it. I am not able to install apps or programs. The install wizard shows that the program or app installed successfully but the app is not in the list of apps.

    Hi Steve Wilson,

Without clean install, you can repair Windows by performing an In-place upgrade.

Disclaimer: Let’s try performing an in-place install or in-place upgrade which will refresh your Windows files and operating system without removing files or applications. That being said, we always recommend that if you have important data, you should back it up before making large system changes. If you want to back up your data first, please do so. Once you are done backing up, you can follow the steps in the following guides: How to run In-place upgrade in Windows 11 - Microsoft Community

The above article is the recommended way to do. Please follow those steps closely.

If you have further information, please feel free to let me know.

    Hi,

So you installed Windows but the installation wasn't complete, and now you're trying to install applications and getting different errors?

    Thanks

The number of items in the Windows Installer folder is not what blocks app installation. The key is that setup reports success but the app never appears in the installed apps list. This usually means either:

    • The app is a classic desktop program that failed partway through install and rolled back, or
    • The app is a packaged/MSIX app that did not register correctly with Windows.

Start with basic checks and then repair the Windows app/installer stack.

    1. Check whether the app actually installed
    • Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (Windows 11) and search for the app name.
    • Also open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and look for it there.
    • If it appears in one place but not the other, uninstall it from there and try reinstalling.
    1. Try installing a known‑good MSIX/MSIXBundle This verifies that App Installer and the MSIX stack work.
    • Make sure App Installer is present and up to date. App Installer ships with Windows and is responsible for installing MSIX/MSIXBundle packages.
    • If Microsoft Store access works, open Store and ensure App Installer is updated. If not, use the offline installer: see Installing the App Installer in the reference below.
    • After App Installer is current, try installing a simple MSIX test package. If that works and shows up in Installed apps, the problem is likely with the specific app’s installer.
    1. Repair the Windows app/installer environment If apps still report “installed” but never appear:
    • Run System File Checker (already known from similar issues):
      • Open an elevated Command Prompt and run: sfc /scannow.
      • If corruption is found and repaired, restart and test installs again.
    • If the issue is only with Store/MSIX apps, reinstall/update App Installer:
      • If Store is available, let it update App Installer automatically.
      • If Store is blocked, download the latest App Installer package using the official offline installer mentioned in the reference and install it, then retry app installs.
    1. Uninstall and reinstall problematic apps If a specific app partially installed:
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps and remove any broken entry for that app.
    • If it’s a classic desktop program, also check Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall from there if listed.
    • Reboot, then run the installer again.
    1. If nothing installs correctly If no apps (Store/MSIX or classic desktop) install and none appear in the lists after “successful” setup, the Windows installation may be damaged beyond simple repair. In that case, the supported path is:
    • Use Reset this PC with Keep my files to repair Windows while preserving personal data and then reinstall apps. See the uninstall/reset guidance in the reference for how Windows manages apps and programs.

If after a reset apps still do not appear after installation, a full clean install of Windows 11 may be required.
