    Hi,

In this case, you can create a recovery drive using the Backup & Restore process (Windows 7), however, you need an external hard drive via USB, ideally a laptop, to perform the backup process.

[Link to Microsoft article about creating a system image in Windows]

This is a local process, as most recovery drive options have the same conditions as the article above.

The other option is to use third-party software such as Macrium Reflect (free) with the option to clone the SSD to an external drive.

But honestly, what I recommend is that you back up your files and perform a clean Windows installation before reinstalling the software. Because, generally, with the same hardware, it's very difficult to have problems, but it's possible. If the hardware changes, you might experience issues with the operating system.

Use two layers of protection: a full system recovery option plus data/settings backup.

    1. Create a Recovery Drive (for full Windows recovery on this PC)
      • Connect an empty USB drive (at least 16 GB is typically recommended).
      • Open the Recovery Drive utility in Windows (search for “Recovery Drive” in Start).
      • Follow the wizard to create a USB recovery media.
      • This backs up the essential Windows files and OEM customizations so the device can be restored to factory state, even if the SSD is replaced (bare-metal recovery).
      • Important: The Recovery Drive does not include personal files, so use the next steps as well.
    2. Use Windows Backup for files, apps, and many settings
      • Sign in with a personal Microsoft account (MSA) on the laptop if not already:
        • Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info or use Your info.
        • If shown, select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
      • Open the Windows Backup app in Windows 11.
      • Turn on backup options for:
        • Files (Documents, Pictures, etc.)
        • Apps
        • Settings (including many system and personalization settings)
        • Wi‑Fi information
      • Windows Backup stores this with the Microsoft account so that, if the device is replaced or the SSD is changed and Windows is reinstalled, signing in with the same Microsoft account will restore many files, apps, and settings automatically.
    3. Prepare for transfer to a replacement or new PC If the repair results in a replacement device or a new Windows install, Windows Backup can help restore:
      • Files
      • Themes and personalization
      • Many installed apps
      • Wi‑Fi information
      • Some other system settings
When setting up the repaired or new PC:
      • Connect to the internet.
      • Sign in with the same Microsoft account used for backup.
      • Windows will offer to restore backed‑up items and apply them to the new installation.
    4. Back up company/network–related data
      • Windows Backup can store Wi‑Fi information and many system settings, which may include some network configuration.
      • For company network access (VPN profiles, domain join, line‑of‑business apps, etc.), coordinate with the company IT department:
        • They may need to reapply domain join, VPN profiles, certificates, or security policies after repair.
        • Ensure any company data stored locally is also backed up according to company policy (for example, redirected folders, OneDrive for Business, or other corporate backup tools).
    5. Optional: Manual copy of critical files
      • In addition to Windows Backup, copy important work folders (Documents, Desktop, project folders, exports from line‑of‑business apps) to an external drive.
      • This gives a direct file copy that can be restored even if cloud-based restore is not used.

    Summary:

    • Create a Recovery Drive USB for system recovery (OS and OEM image).
    • Use Windows Backup with a Microsoft account to back up files, apps, Wi‑Fi info, and many settings.
    • Manually copy critical work files to an external drive.
    • Coordinate with company IT to ensure corporate network access and policies can be re-applied after repair.
