Hello, I’m experiencing persistent Microsoft Store error code 0x80073CFE. Multiple apps (MSI Center, WhatsApp, even feedback Hub) fail to install or update, showing “Something went wrong.” I have already tried:

  • Signing out/in of the Store
  • Running wsreset.exe
  • Repairing/Resetting the Store via Settings
  • Re‑registering the Store in PowerShell
  • Running SFC and DISM scans
  • Performing a Windows repair install (in‑place upgrade) Despite all of these steps, the error persists across different apps. I’ve also seen other users reporting the same 0x80073CFE error recently, and Microsoft moderators have acknowledged it as a known Store issue requiring a backend fix. Could you confirm if my case is part of this outage and provide an estimated resolution timeline? Thank you.

    Hi,

Which version of Windows 11 are you using? To check, go to Start Menu > Settings > System > About.

Access msinfo32.exe in the search bar, take a screenshot, and post it here.

Open the command prompt (admin) and run the commands: sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, wait for the process to finish and restart the computer.

Then perform a clean boot and if you want to uninstall applications that you do not use.

Open the Microsoft Store > Library > Get Updates

Wait for it to finish and see if it installed the applications.

    Thanks

Error 0x80073CFE corresponds to ERROR_PACKAGE_REPOSITORY_CORRUPTED, which indicates that the local Windows app package repository is corrupted.

The documented remediation for 0x80073CFE is to refresh the PC, because this error can occur if the folder referenced by the registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Appx\PackageRepositoryRoot does not exist or is corrupted. In that state, the app repository cannot be repaired per‑app or per‑Store; a system refresh is required to recover.

The available documentation does not provide any information about a broader Microsoft Store service outage or any backend incident related to 0x80073CFE, and it does not provide an ETA or timeline for resolution of any such incident. It only treats 0x80073CFE as a client‑side repository corruption issue with the recovery action described above.
