Hello, are you seeing this message when syncing files or when saving a specific file?

Reset the OneDrive sync app to clear incorrect storage status. Press Windows + R, paste %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset, then press Enter. Wait a minute, then open OneDrive again from Start. If the icon does not return, run %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe. This refreshes sync data and fixes incorrect space reporting without changing your files.

The message usually refers to lack of free space on the local disk (PC/Mac), not in the OneDrive cloud. Even if only 1% of OneDrive storage is used, the computer’s drive can be full and block syncing.

    To resolve this:

    1. Free up local disk space
      1. On Windows, run Disk Cleanup: Start > Disk Clean-up and remove temporary files and other unneeded items.
      2. On Mac, use Optimize Storage to clear local space.
    2. Move files into the OneDrive folder
      1. After freeing some space, move or copy the files to the OneDrive folder so they can sync.
    3. Limit what is synced locally
      1. Select the OneDrive icon in the taskbar/menubar.
      2. Open OneDrive > Settings > Account > Choose folders.
      3. Deselect folders that do not need to be stored on the device so they remain only in the cloud.
    4. Make files “online-only” to reclaim disk space
      1. After sync completes, right-click large files/folders in the OneDrive folder and select Clear space so they stay in OneDrive but are removed from the local disk.
      2. Empty the computer’s Recycle Bin/Trash.

If the warning is instead about cloud storage (OneDrive quota), sign in to Manage your OneDrive storage to see what is using space, empty the OneDrive Recycle bin, and if needed buy more storage.
