outlook wont accept my correct yahoo password

as of the 27/01/2026, my yahoo emails are no longer syncing with the outlook application on my macbook laptop. i have tried accessing my yahoo email directly via the yahoo website, it is working fine when accessing the emails directly via yahoo, just not when i try to access them via outlook application.

my yahoo email in outlook app is asking for my email address and password however when entering these details, it is not accepting it, saying :"unable to sign in. Try again or create an app password for this account."

my email and password is working on the yahoo website with nil issues.

what i did is i added another email on my outlook application using the same yahoo email and it accepted my user name and password but the problem is old messages are not syncing and i have been waiting for over 2 months now. old messages are still not syncing in outlook but old messages are showing on the yahoo website.

issue only happens through the outlook application.

Hello, I’m Virginia a fellow windows user.

You will either need to delete the account & add it again or create an app specific password via your Yahoo account online & enter this instead of the account password.

If you delete the account then during setup choose Yahoo & follow instructions, it will ask you to authenticate & take you to your Yahoo sign in page, once signed in you’ll continue setup. This is due to the new OAUTH 2.0 authentication which has been introduced.

As you’ve added the account again then check to see if there’s a setting to download all mail, I’d also check to see if the old mail is still on the server.

Outlook can be temperamental with non Microsoft accounts so you may have to use a non Microsoft email client to view old mails as many users have said older mail is being deleted/hidden for them.
