Deleting a virtual network gateway

I need to delete a virtual network gateway (Basic) so that I can increase the GatewaySubnet mask and create a new Az gateway or new Basic. Quite simply, either via the portal or via the CLI, the deletion times out.

I am using the -Force option.

Remove-AzVirtualNetworkGateway: Long running operation failed with status 'Failed'. Additional Info:'Operation timed out. Please retry after some time or contact support.'

ErrorCode: GwmOperationTimeOut

ErrorMessage: Operation timed out. Please retry after some time or contact support.

I have removed the connections on the gateway first but I cannot remove the gateway.

Regards

Pete

    Hello @Peter Hall,

Thank you reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

When deleting your Basic VPN gateway, you’re encountering a failed. This usually indicates there may still be a hidden dependency or a stuck ARM/NRP operation on the gateway.

The backend team has cleared the stuck operation. Could you please try deleting the VPN again? It should succeed now.
