Hi! If you are the only member of the Microsoft Family, you should normally be able to leave it. If you are unable to do so, it may be because the account is set as a child account. In that case, please go to account.microsoft.com/family, click the three dots on your profile, and select Remove consent. After that, you should be able to leave the family group.

Please keep in mind that this will not change the fact that the account is still considered a child account. To change the date of birth, an adult account must add you to their Microsoft Family and update it from there.

Follow these steps to remove the unwanted Family Safety restrictions and group:

    1. Check if a family group actually exists for the account:
      1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/family and sign in.
      2. If no family members are listed, there is no active family group.
      3. If a family is listed, the account has been added to a family group in the past.
    2. If there is a family group and the account is an Organizer, remove any members and/or leave the group:
      1. On the same family page, select each member and remove them from the family group.
      2. When only one adult remains and no children are present, the remaining organizer can leave or delete the group as allowed by the page options.
    3. If Family Safety restrictions are still being enforced on the device (even if no family group is visible), run a Family Safety reset on each affected Windows device:
      1. Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
      2. Type cmd and select OK.
      3. In the Command Prompt window, type or paste: schtasks /run /tn "Microsoft\Windows\Shell\FamilySafetyRefreshTask" then press Enter.
      4. Restart the computer.
      5. Repeat these steps on every device where restrictions still appear.

If the account’s birth date is incorrect and causing child-like treatment, update the birth date following the guidance under "I'm an adult, but Microsoft thinks I'm a child" in the birth-date change article referenced below.
