I just started a new job which requires me to use Google Chrome Meet. I am suddenly not able to access the microphone on my headset. The computer is accessing my desktop microphone instead. How can I fix this?

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    Please clarify the following:

Does your headset have 2 jack connectors P2 (two black or white lines), a single jack connector P3 (three black or white lines), a USB connector, or is it connected via Bluetooth?

Also, share a screenshot of your system information.

    • Press "Windows + R", type msinfo32 and press Enter.

Maximize the window and use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

    Looking forward to your reply.

Follow these steps in Windows 11 to make the headset microphone work and be available to Chrome/Google Meet:

    1. Set the headset as the default input device
      1. Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      2. Under Input, go to Choose a device for speaking or recording and select the headset microphone instead of the desktop microphone.
      3. Select the > to the right of the headset device, then under Microphone test choose Start test and speak into the headset. Choose Stop test, then Play under Recorded sample to confirm it hears the voice clearly.
    2. Make sure apps can use the microphone
      1. Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
      2. Ensure Microphone access is turned On.
      3. Turn Let apps access your microphone On.
      4. Under Choose which apps can access your microphone, turn on access for any browser entry that appears (for example, if the installed browser is listed).
      5. Make sure Let desktop apps access your microphone is turned On so Google Chrome/Meet can use it.
    3. Basic headset checks
      1. If the headset has a Mute button or switch, make sure it is not active.
      2. Confirm the headset is firmly plugged into the correct port or, if it is Bluetooth, that it is paired and connected.
    4. If the headset still is not used in Meet After the steps above, close all browser windows and reopen Chrome, then join a Meet and, in the Meet audio settings, select the same headset microphone that was chosen in Settings > System > Sound.
