I noticed I have been billed Microsoft 365 Family subscription when I should have the Microsoft 365 Individual subscription. How do I change this? Will I get a partial refund? Can I ever talk or communicate with a real Customer Support human being? Thank you.

For the data, as long as it is the same MIcrosoft account, it should be fine.

Refund, contact support and explain it to them. Go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus, Type "Billing" and press Enter. On the next screen, click "Contact support" at the bottom of the page, then choose "Microsoft 365" > "Manage my subscription". You’ll then see the option to chat with a Microsoft support agent who has access to your account to help review the issue.

If I cancel 365 family subscription and then purchase 365 Individual subscription, will my one-drive and other data be linked to my new subscription automatically?

I see an option to switch from Microsoft 365 Family to 365 Individual subscription. If I do this now, will I get a partial refund?

If I cancel my subscription first as I worry I will lose access and files?

Is there a human being that can answer questions?

To move from Microsoft 365 Family to Microsoft 365 Individual (Personal) and understand refund options, use the Microsoft account portal and then, if needed, contact Support.

    1. Check and change the subscription
      1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the same Microsoft account that is being billed for Microsoft 365.
      2. Find the Microsoft 365 Family subscription and select Manage.
      3. On the next page, select Cancel (or Upgrade or Cancel, depending on what is shown).
      4. Follow the on‑screen steps to complete cancellation.
      5. After cancellation is set, purchase the correct Microsoft 365 Personal/Individual plan under the same account.
    2. Refund and partial refund eligibility
      • For Microsoft 365 subscriptions purchased from Microsoft, refund eligibility is checked as part of the cancellation flow: “To check refund eligibility on a Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family or Premium subscription you purchased from Microsoft, you will need to cancel it first.”
      • During the cancellation steps, the site will show whether a refund (full or prorated) is available for the Family subscription.
      • If the subscription was purchased through Google Play or Apple App Store, cancellation and any refund must be handled through their support instead.
      • In some countries (for example Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, Korea, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Turkey), prorated refunds may apply. Details are in the “Countries with prorated refunds for Microsoft subscriptions” article linked from the cancellation page.
    3. Communicating with a real Customer Support agent
      • If the online cancellation/refund flow does not resolve the issue or the situation is complex (for example, multiple charges or plan confusion), contact Microsoft Support:
        • Go to Contact Microsoft Support (linked from the refund article) and select Get Help, then Contact Support to be routed to the best support option.
      • For unrecognized or incorrect charges, the refund article also directs to the Manage your payments page to investigate charges and then proceed as needed.

Using these steps, the Family subscription can be cancelled, refund eligibility checked, and then the correct Individual/Personal subscription purchased. A live support agent can assist further if anything in billing or eligibility does not look right.
