Building and customizing solutions using Microsoft 365 Copilot APIs and tools
Copilot 365 itself cannot be set as the default app to open PDF files. Copilot features work within supported Microsoft 365 apps (such as Word, OneDrive, or the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile apps), but the context does not provide any method to register Copilot as the system’s default PDF handler.
On mobile devices, the Microsoft 365 Copilot apps for iOS and Android can open, edit, sign, and save PDFs, but they are used from inside the app rather than being set as the OS-level default for all PDFs.
For example, in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on iOS and Android, PDFs can be:
- Opened from OneDrive or device storage
- Signed and saved
- Converted to or from other formats (e.g., document to PDF, pictures/scan to PDF)
However, the context does not describe any option to make these apps the default PDF opener at the operating system level.
