We see many reports in the forums that the Repair Now option doesn't work. If that is your experience as well, exit all Office apps and then run an Online Repair of Office; read more at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/repair-an-office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b .

The final step in an Online Repair is a reinstallation of Office, and therefore you should verify that you can access your Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/services and that Office is associated with it.

    Hi,

I understand how frustrating it is when Microsoft Word won’t open and asks for a repair.

    First, please try repairing Office:

    • In the search bar, type Control Panel and press Enter

    • Go to Programs > Programs and Features

    • Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office in the list

    • Right-click it and select Change

    • Choose Quick Repair and follow the prompts

If the issue continues, repeat the steps above but select Online Repair instead. This is more thorough and usually resolves most problems.

If Word still isn’t working after the repair, you can reinstall Office:

In your search bar, type Control Panel and press Enter > Programs > Programs and Features.

Locate Microsoft 365 subscription or any Office apps installed on your computer, right-click on them, and select Uninstall.

Restart your computer to ensure the changes take effect.

Then reinstall it using the steps below:

    Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services

Sign in using the Microsoft account associated with your license.

Locate Microsoft Office and click Install.

This will download the Office installer.

Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
