    Hello,

In Keychain Access, search for “adal” and delete all related entries, such as:

    • com.microsoft.adalcache
    • com.microsoft.identity.universalstorage (Search for universal storage)
    • Microsoft Office Identities Cache 2 (Search for Office Identities)
    • Microsoft Office Identities Settings 2

After deleting these entries from Keychain Access, remove/sign out of your Microsoft account in your Office apps (such as Outlook and Excel), then restart your Mac.

Once your Mac has restarted, add your account again from scratch in the Office apps and check whether this resolves the issue.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Have you signed in with a different Microsoft account than the one you used to sign in to your PC? Is that account different from the administrator account on the device?

If you are being asked to sign in every time you open Office applications, here’s what you can try:

    1. Open Control Panel > User Accounts > Credential Manager > Windows Credentials.
    2. Under Generic Credentials, remove all the credentials related to Microsoft Office.
    3. Once deleted, restart your Office apps and sign in to your account.
    4. Then, restart your PC and see if you are still asked to sign in.

    Repair Office applications.

    1. Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
    2. Locate Microsoft Office in the list, click the three dots next to it, and select Modify.
    3. Select Online Repair and click Repair.
    4. Once done, open any Office app and sign in to your account.
    5. Then, restart your computer and check if it works without asking you to sign in again.

Microsoft 365 apps stay activated and signed in as long as the account remains signed in on the device. If sign-in is required every time, the account is likely being signed out or deactivated between sessions.

    Key points and actions:

    1. Stay signed in when prompted
      • When signing in to Microsoft 365 or Office apps, choose options like “Stay signed in” if shown.
      • For home subscriptions, staying signed in is recommended so apps remain activated and do not prompt repeatedly.
    2. Do not sign out of Office apps
      • If signing out from Word, Excel, Outlook, or from the account menu in any Office app, the apps are deactivated.
      • When deactivated, apps allow only viewing and printing files until signing in again.
    3. Keep within device sign-in limits
      • A Microsoft 365 subscription allows signing in to Office on up to 5 devices at the same time.
      • If more than 5 devices are used, Microsoft 365 may automatically sign out older devices. To use Office again on that device, simply sign back in.
    4. Use the correct account
      • Each person using Microsoft 365 or Office on a device must have an account associated with a Microsoft 365 subscription (for example, the subscription owner or someone it is shared with under Microsoft 365 Family).
      • If using multiple accounts (work, school, and personal), ensure the same subscription account is used consistently on that device.
    5. Windows sign-in and automatic Office sign-in (for work/school)
      • If Windows is joined to a work or school account and that account is used to sign in to Windows, Microsoft 365 or Office will sign in automatically on that device.

If sign-in prompts continue even after staying signed in and not manually signing out, check whether the account is being used on many devices (over the limit) or whether someone else is signing in with a different account on the same device, which can cause re-prompts.
