Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Dear @Greg Ethier,
A personal Microsoft 365 account cannot be directly changed or converted into a Microsoft 365 Business account. Personal (home) and business subscriptions are built on different systems, so Microsoft does not support an in‑place conversion.
What Microsoft does support is switching by creating a new Microsoft 365 Business subscription and then moving your work data to it. When you purchase a business plan (such as Business Basic, Business Standard, or Business Premium), a new business organization is created for you. Your existing personal Microsoft account remains active and is not deleted. For more information, please follow this Microsoft Official Guide here: Switch to a Microsoft 365 for business subscription
After the business account is set up, you can move your data as needed. Files stored in personal OneDrive can be copied to OneDrive for Business, and email, contacts, and calendar data can be exported from Outlook and imported into the new business mailbox. Personal Microsoft Teams data does not transfer automatically and usually needs to be recreated in the business account.
1/ Move files from OneDrive (personal) to OneDrive for enterprise
Sign in to both your personal and business OneDrive accounts using the OneDrive sync client (white cloud icon for personal, blue cloud icon for business). You can then copy or drag files from OneDrive: Personal to OneDrive to Your Organization by using File Explorer. More detailed steps: Migrate data to my Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscription...
2/ Move emails, contacts, and calendar to your corporate mailbox
In Outlook for desktop, export your personal mailbox to a PST file, and then import that file into your new corporate mailbox. This will copy your emails, contacts, and calendar while maintaining the structure of the folders. For reference: Import and export Outlook emails, contacts, and calendar – Microsoft Support.
3/ Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Install the apps and sign in with your corporate account so that they use your business subscription and save files by default to corporate OneDrive. In Outlook, add your corporate mailbox (you can keep your personal mailbox available during the transition). Setup guide: Set up Outlook for email from Microsoft 365 for business.
Once you confirm that all required work data is available in the business account, you may choose to cancel your personal Microsoft 365 subscription if you no longer need it. Your personal Microsoft account itself can still be used for non‑work purposes.
