Student verification issue – Educational domain not recognized

Hello,

I am currently trying to activate the Azure for Students offer through GitHub Student Developer Pack.

However, I encountered an issue during the academic verification process. The system indicates that my educational email domain is not recognized.

I am a student enrolled at:

École Supérieure d’Informatique et d’Intelligence Artificielle (Campus de Paris - Torcy, France).

Since my institution is not automatically recognized, I would like to know how I can complete the verification process manually.

I am ready to provide any required documents such as:

  • student ID
  • enrollment certificate
  • proof of studies

I am currently working on a Next.js project that I would like to deploy on Azure.

Could you please guide me on how to proceed with the verification?

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

Madou DIAKAYETEBA

    Hello Madou Diakayeteba,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

When investigated we see that you’ve hit the “domain not recognized” roadblock when trying to get Azure for Students via the GitHub Student Developer Pack. Since your school’s email domain isn’t yet in our automated list, you’ll need to switch to a manual verification path. Here’s how you can do that:

Look for a “verify manually” or “upload documents” link in the same flow where you entered your school email.

If you see it, select that option and upload any of the following: • Student ID card

    • Enrollment certificate or proof of registration

    • Transcript or proof of studies

Once submitted, reviews typically take 1–7 business days.

If you don’t see an upload link in the verification flow, open a support ticket:

In the Azure portal, go to Help + support → New support request → Issue type: “Student offer verification.”

Or, if you’re still in the GitHub Student Pack portal, use the “Contact us” or “Help” button there to raise a manual review.

When you file that ticket, include:

Your full name (matching your school records)

The exact email domain you tried (e.g. @your-school.fr)

A screenshot of the “domain not recognized” error

Scanned copies of one or more of your documents (ID, enrollment certificate, etc.)

Keep an eye on your inbox—once the team has everything, they’ll email you within about a week with the outcome, and you can finish activating your Azure for Students benefits.

Hope that helps you move forward with your Next.js project! If you run into any more snags, just let us know which step you’re stuck on and share those screenshots so we can steer you more precisely.

To activate Azure for Students when the academic email domain isn’t recognized, use the manual verification path and, if needed, open a support ticket so the institution can be validated.

    1. Confirm Azure for Students prerequisites
      • Azure for Students is only available if:
        • The student is 18 or older and enrolled full-time at an accredited, degree‑granting higher‑education institution.
        • Academic status is verified through the institution’s email address.
      • Details are in the Azure for Students description and FAQ.
    2. Retry academic verification with the school email
      • When starting Azure for Students (including via GitHub Student Developer Pack), the flow will ask for the school email/domain to verify eligibility.
      • If the domain is not recognized or is blocked, the system may require additional information or a manual review.
    3. If the school/domain isn’t recognized, request manual review
      • When a school domain or academic status cannot be automatically verified, Microsoft may perform a manual eligibility review.
      • For similar academic scenarios (for example, Microsoft 365 Education and educator programs), the documented process is:
        • Complete the online verification wizard with the school’s domain and details.
        • If automatic verification fails, the case goes into manual review, which can take several business days.
        • During manual review, Microsoft may request documents such as:
          • Domain ownership evidence (domain registration records, purchase receipts, screenshots of the domain management portal).
          • Academic accreditation evidence (accreditation certificates, letters from the Ministry/Department of Education, or government URLs with verification codes).
      • As a student, be prepared to provide:
        • Official enrollment proof (enrollment certificate, proof of studies).
        • Student ID.
        • Any official document that clearly shows the institution name and confirms it is a higher‑education, degree‑granting school.
    4. Open a support ticket for academic domain verification
      • If the automated flow continues to say the domain is not recognized, open a support request so the domain and institution can be reviewed manually.
      • Use the education/academic or Azure for Students support channel associated with the account being used to sign up.
      • In the ticket, include:
        • Full institution name and campus (as written in the question).
        • School website and academic email domain.
        • Copies of the documents listed above (student ID, enrollment certificate, proof of studies).
        • A clear description that Azure for Students academic verification is failing because the domain is not recognized.
    5. Wait for manual review
      • Manual reviews for academic eligibility in Microsoft education programs typically take up to about 7–10 business days, depending on the workflow.
      • After review, Microsoft will send an email indicating whether the institution and account are approved or denied for academic offers.
    6. After approval, proceed with Azure for Students and deployment
      • Once academic status is approved and the Azure for Students subscription is active, deploy the Next.js application to Azure (for example, using Azure App Service) as usual.

If the institution ultimately cannot be validated as an accredited, degree‑granting higher‑education institution, Azure for Students eligibility will not be granted and a regular pay‑as‑you‑go subscription would be required to deploy the project.
