Copilot only appears in Microsoft 365 apps when the account, license, app version, and settings all meet the Copilot requirements. Use the following checks:
- Confirm the correct account and license
- Open any Microsoft 365 app (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Make sure the signed-in account is the one with the Copilot entitlement:
- Home: Microsoft 365 Personal or Family with Copilot Pro.
- Business: Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, E3, E5, F1, or F3 and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
- For new/unsaved or local files, the primary account shown at the top of the app window must be the Copilot-licensed account.
- Update Office to the latest build
- Refresh the license
- Windows:
- In any Microsoft 365 app, go to File > Account.
- Select Update License.
- Close and restart all Microsoft 365 apps.
- Mac:
- In any Microsoft 365 app, select the app name menu (for example, Word) at the top of the screen.
- Select About <app name> > More Info... > Refresh License.
- Close all documents and restart all Microsoft 365 apps.
- For business users: verify the update channel (Windows)
- Open any Microsoft 365 app and go to File > Account.
- In Product Information, check the update channel:
- If it shows Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel, Copilot features will not be available.
- Work with the organization’s IT/admin to move the device to Current Channel or Monthly Enterprise Channel. Until then, Copilot should be available in the web versions of the apps.
- Check privacy and connected experiences settings
- Windows:
- Open any Microsoft 365 app and go to File > Account.
- Under Account Privacy, select Manage Settings.
- Ensure Experiences that analyze your content is turned on.
- Scroll down and ensure All connected experiences is turned on.
- Mac:
- Open Word.
- Go to Word > Preferences > Privacy.
- Turn on Experiences that analyze your content and All connected experiences.
- If using Copilot on the web
If, after these steps, Copilot still does not show and the subscription is confirmed to include Copilot, contact the organization’s Microsoft 365 admin or Microsoft support to review the tenant and license configuration.
