Subject: Access Denied / OneDrive "Read-Only" mode and Personal Vault sync error

Hello, I am experiencing a critical permissions issue on Windows 11 with folders synced by OneDrive (specifically on my Desktop).

The issue:

  1. I am receiving a "Destination Folder Access Denied" error when trying to move or edit files, even though I am the Administrator ([Moderator Note: Personal Info Removed]).

My files show a grey padlock icon and a red "X" sync error status.

OneDrive displays a sync error for "Personal Vault.lnk", stating that "The name or type of item isn't allowed."

On OneDrive Web, my account appears to be stuck in "Read-Only" mode.

What I have already tried:

Attempted to change the folder owner in Security Properties, but access was denied.

Ran takeown and icacls commands via elevated CMD, but the system wouldn't allow the changes.

Tried to delete files and empty the bin via OneDrive Web to free up space, but the "Read-Only" status prevents any deletions from processing.

I need my account to be "unfrozen" or the read-only restriction lifted so I can clear space and regain control of my local files. Could you please check if there is an administrative lock on my account?

    Hello Vinicius Klayn

Please note that our forum is a public platform, and we will modify your question to hide your personal information in the description. Kindly ensure that you hide any personal or organizational information the next time you post an error or other details to protect personal data.

This does not sound like a simple Windows administrator rights issue. If OneDrive on the web is showing your files as read-only, that usually points to an account/storage state on the OneDrive side rather than a local NTFS permission problem. The PersonalVault.ink sync error is also consistent with a blocked or unsupported item name/type.

I would suggest having a live support agent from Microsoft Support having a look into this. Here are the steps on how to reach out to Microsoft Support

    1. Open a website link - Contact - Microsoft Support
    2. In the box below "We're here to help", type Microsoft 365, click "Get Help", and then click "Contact Support" below.
    3. In this section, you will need to sign in to your Microsoft account.
    4. Select "Microsoft 365 and Office" under Products & Services, select "Technical Support" as the category, and click to confirm
    5. You can select " Chat with a support agent in your web browser " to access the chat window.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators and contributors, including external Microsoft employees, are not allowed to directly interfere with Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. Our role is limited solely to providing technical guidance on reported incidents, requests, or ideas.

I hope you can get the support you need, have a nice day.
