    Open Word.

At the top right of Word, log out of Office.

Restart (not shut down) your PC, then log back into Office, is your subscription then recognised correctly.

    2

If not, log into your Microsoft account on this link, do you see a Office licence listed there, or if you have a subscription to Microsoft 365, check the expiry date listed on your subscription, is that listed correctly.

The described behavior matches Office running in Reduced Functionality Mode because it is not activated.

    In Reduced Functionality Mode:

    • Documents cannot be created, saved, or modified.
    • Many ribbon commands (Paste, Cut, Copy, Undo, Redo, Save, font and alignment controls, etc.) are disabled.

To restore full functionality, Office must be activated:

    1. Start any Office app (for example, Excel or Word).
    2. When the Activation Wizard appears, follow the prompts to sign in with the account that owns the license or enter a valid product key.
    3. Complete activation. After activation succeeds, restart the Office apps and test saving and editing again.

If using a time-limited trial and the trial period has expired, it is necessary to convert the trial to a fully licensed product by purchasing a product key and activating with that key.

No existing files are damaged while Office is in Reduced Functionality Mode; they are just read-only until activation is completed.
