Windows Spotlight isn't an option for changing Lock Screen Appearance and I'd like it to be.

Try to re-register Windows Spotlight, see if it helps.

Run the following command in Terminal (Admin) > Windows PowerShell:

    Get-AppxPackage -Name Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml" -Verbose}

    Hi Samantha,

Thank you for posting your question here!

Since Windows Spotlight is usually the default and when it disappears it feels broken. To troubleshoot start by opening Settings then Personalization and Lock screen and confirm Spotlight is not available which may indicate a policy restriction. Next restart the device and check if the option returns. If it does not open Apps in Settings go to Installed apps find Windows system components related to Spotlight and run Repair or Reset if available. If still missing reset Spotlight manually by enabling it in the registry under the current user ContentDeliveryManager settings and then clear the Spotlight cache in the local app data folder followed by another restart. If this is a company or HP managed device Spotlight may be intentionally disabled by policy and cannot be re enabled without IT access.

    Best Regards,

    Angelique P.

    Hi Samantha,

Thank you for posting your question here!

This typically happens when Spotlight is disabled by policy or its background services are corrupted. On some work or HP enterprise builds Spotlight is intentionally turned off by management policies. On personal devices it can usually be fixed by re enabling Spotlight in the registry and resetting the Content Delivery Manager cache followed by a restart.

Step 1 If this is a work device Spotlight can be disabled by policy. Open Settings > Go to Personalization

If Lock screen page is missing Spotlight entirely that points to policy

Step 2 services reset. Open Settings > Go to Apps > Installed apps > Find Windows Spotlight or System components if listed Repair then Reset

Step 3 Press Windows key + R > Type regedit > Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion > ContentDeliveryManager > Set these to 1 > RotatingLockScreenEnabled > RotatingLockScreenOverlayEnabled > Exit and restart

If this is an HP or enterprise build IT may have Spotlight disabled intentionally.

On supported editions (Enterprise/Education), Windows Spotlight can be selected for a single device under:

    • Settings → Personalization → Background → choose “Windows spotlight” from “Personalize your background”
    • Settings → Personalization → Lock screen → choose “Windows spotlight” from “Personalize your lock screen”

For managed or multiple devices in an organization, Windows Spotlight can be configured via:

    • Experience Policy CSP (for MDM/Intune-managed devices)
    • Group Policy (for AD or Microsoft Entra hybrid joined devices)
