How do I download a free trial version of MS Project Standard 2024?

Good day, and thank you for clearly describing your issue.

I’d be happy to help clarify the confusion regarding Microsoft Project trials. At this time, Microsoft does not offer a free trial for Project Standard 2024. This version is a one‑time (perpetual) purchase, and Microsoft does not provide trial downloads for perpetual editions of Project, including both Standard and Professional.

To use Project Standard 2024, the product must be purchased outright and activated using a valid product key at microsoft365.com/setup

However, Microsoft does offer free trials for the subscription‑based Project Plan 3.

These trials include access to the desktop Microsoft Project application and represent the only supported method for evaluating Microsoft Project prior to purchase.

MS Project Standard 2024 is a stand-alone product. To use it in trial form, first obtain a Project subscription or trial that includes the Project desktop app, then install it.

1. Go to the Microsoft 365 Products site and start a free trial of a Microsoft 365 plan that includes Project, or use the Project “Buy or try Project” entry point:
   • From the Project install article, use Buy or try Project: Buy or try Project.
2. Complete the trial sign-up and ensure the account has a Project license assigned (for Project Online Professional/Premium this is required before install).
3. After the trial is active, go to microsoft365.com and sign in with the same account used for the trial.
4. From the Microsoft 365 home page, select Install and more.
5. Scroll through the list of owned products or select Subscriptions in the header to see all Microsoft products associated with the account.
6. Locate Project in the list and select Install.
   • To change language or bitness (32-bit/64-bit), choose Other options, select the desired language and bit version, then select Install.
7. When the download starts, run the installer:
   • In Edge/Internet Explorer: select Run.
   • In Chrome: select Setup.
   • In Firefox: select Save File, then run it.
8. Approve the User Account Control prompt, wait for installation to complete, then use Start → search for Project to launch it.

Note: Project Online Essentials does not include the desktop Project application, so it cannot be used for a Project desktop trial.
