Switching out of S mode

Question

My Microsoft store will not load for me to switch out of s mode. It launches normally but when I try to use the option to switch out pf s mode in settings it closes by itself. What do i need to do to?

1. I recommend waiting a few hours and trying again, as the Microsoft Store service may be temporarily unavailable.
2. Please ensure you are connected to a stable and reliable internet connection.
3. Try signing out of the Microsoft Store, then sign back in and attempt to switch out of S mode again.
4. You can also reset the Microsoft Store cache:

Press Windows + R

Type 'wsreset.exe -i' (without quotes)

Click OK, wait about 10 seconds, then try again

If the issue still persists, you may try repairing Windows using System Recovery without removing your files or apps:

Go to Start > Settings > System > Recovery

Select Reinstall now under Fix problems using Windows Update

Once the process is complete and your system restarts, try switching out of S mode again.

To switch out of S mode, the Microsoft Store must open the special Switch out of S mode page and complete the “Get” action. If the Store app is crashing when opened from Settings, use the direct Store link and then general Store troubleshooting.

1. Use the direct “Switch out of S mode” Store link
   • On the Windows 11 device, select this link:
     Switch out of S Mode
   • This should open Microsoft Store directly on the Switch out of S mode (or similar) page.
   • Select Get and wait for the confirmation that switching is complete.
   • After confirmation, apps from outside Microsoft Store can be installed.
2. If the Store still will not load or crashes
   • Make sure the device is online and signed in with a Microsoft account.
   • If the device belongs to an organization (school or work), the administrator may have enforced S mode. In that case, contact the administrator, because the organization can choose to keep all devices in S mode and block switching.

Key points:

• Switching out of S mode is one-way; it is not possible to go back to Windows 11 in S mode after switching.
• There is no charge to switch out of S mode.
