    Hello.

If you are 100 percent sure the password is correct and Windows still blocks access, focus on Microsoft supported recovery steps. If this is a Microsoft account, reset your password from another device using the official Microsoft password reset page, then restart your PC and sign in again while connected to the internet so it syncs.

If this is a local account, use the built in recovery options from the sign in screen by selecting “Reset password” or use a password reset disk if you created one before. If no recovery option works, use Windows Recovery Environment by selecting Restart while holding Shift, then go to Troubleshoot, Reset this PC, and choose Keep my files.

Follow these steps to troubleshoot the sign-in problem when the password is correct but Windows will not unlock the session:

    1. Restart the device fully
      • On the lock or sign-in screen, select Power > Restart.
      • If updates are pending, choose Update and restart so Windows can finish installing updates, which can resolve temporary sign-in issues.
    2. Try Safe Mode sign-in with the account password
      • On the sign-in screen, hold down Shift and select Power > Restart.
      • After restart, on the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
      • When the options appear, press 5 or F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
      • Sign in using the account password (not PIN or biometrics). If sign-in works here, the issue is likely with drivers or additional security layers.
    3. Try another account if available
      • On the normal sign-in screen, check the lower-left corner for other accounts.
      • Select another account and sign in.
      • Once signed in, check for Windows updates and review user accounts (requires admin rights).
    4. If the device shows only “Other user” and will not accept any credentials
      • This can happen if a critical Windows process fails at startup.
      • On the Welcome screen, press and hold Shift, select the Power button in the lower-right corner, then select Restart.
      • If that does not work, press and hold the physical power button for about 30 seconds to force a complete restart, then try signing in again.
    5. If the issue is with the Microsoft account itself
      • If the same Microsoft account password fails on all devices and on the web, use the Microsoft account recovery options from another device:
        • Use the password reset and recovery guidance in Help with the Microsoft account recovery form and related account sign-in help.
      • If recovery attempts are rate-limited, wait for the lockout period (typically about 24 hours) before trying again, and avoid repeated failed attempts during that time.

If none of these steps allow sign-in (including Safe Mode and other accounts), further recovery such as creating a new admin account or resetting the PC may be required, which can affect apps and settings. Ensure any important data is backed up where possible before using reset options.
