Transferring an old Outlook POP3 email account to a new PC (Outlook Classic 2024, Windows 11)
Best way to do this is by copying the Outlook PST file from the old PC to the new PC.
The PST file contains everything related to the account including downloaded emails, user folder structure, address auto completion, calendar information, contact information, etc so copying it onto the new PC transfers everything across.
For example :-
Copy
Old-PC\Documents\Outlook Files******@ntlworld.com.pst to
New-PC\Documents\Outlook Files******@ntlworld.com.pst
Outlook must be closed when you copy the old PST file.
Run Outlook on the new PC for the first time.
Enter email address
Select Advanced options
Tick Let me set up my account manually
Connect
Select POP
Enter email Password
Connect
If the old PST file is in the Outlook Files folder and the file name is the email address + .pst then Outlook will use it instead of creating a new PST file and will automatically pick up all the account information that was stored in the PST file.
Alternatively if you would prefer to explicitly select the PST file then do the following BEFORE running Outlook for the first time.
Windows Search bar > Control Panel > User Accounts > Mail (Microsoft Outlook).
Add Outlook as a profile name.
Select Manual setup. Select 'POP or IMAP'. The 'POP and IMAP Account Settings' dialog box allows you to select and browse an Existing Outlook Data File. Enter all the setup information including server port numbers and create the account.
