Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Are you inserting the slide from another PowerPoint file or from a different format (like PDF or older .ppt)?
    2. Can you try opening that source file directly, does it open normally without errors?

In the meantime, if you haven’t already:

    • Open the source file > File > Save As > save a new copy as .pptx
    • Then try inserting the slide again from that new file
    • If it still fails, can you share a screenshot of the exact error message?

If the issue persists, please provide more details by answering my questions.

The error "PowerPoint can't read file" when inserting a slide is usually caused by PowerPoint blocking the source file for security reasons.

To unblock the file in Windows so it can be used:

    1. Open File Explorer.
    2. Locate the PowerPoint file that is causing the error (the file from which the slide is being inserted).
    3. Right-click the file and select Properties.
    4. In the Properties dialog, look near the bottom for an Unblock checkbox or button.
    5. If Unblock is present, select it, then choose Apply, and then OK.
    6. Reopen PowerPoint and try inserting the slide again.

If the error persists after unblocking, the file may be corrupted or in an older/unsupported format. In that case, try opening the file directly in PowerPoint first; if it opens, save it as a new .pptx file and then insert slides from that new copy.

If the problem continues, contact Microsoft support as suggested in the documentation.
