Windows 11 4-2-26 update problem

After the 4-2-26 Windows 11 update, MS 365 Copilot no longer works. Upon opening Copilot, the "Hi, how can I help you?" banner is blinking rapidly, as is my name (lower lefthand corner) and one or more of the other links in the window. This goes on for several seconds before the window changes to "Restart the app" (etc.). The only way I can close the app is with Task Manager.

I've tried uninstalling the update, repairing the app and Office (both Quick and online), uninstalling and reinstalling the app several times, and running troubleshooters, all to no avail. Everything else seems to be working fine.

Please help.

    Hi E. Bruce Mintz,

I understand how frustrating it is when Copilot suddenly stops working after a Windows update, especially after you’ve already tried many standard fixes. Please try the following:

Step 1: Confirm WebView2 is not being blocked

    1. Open “Settings” > “Apps” > “Installed apps”
    2. Locate “Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime”
    3. If missing, reinstall it from Microsoft:
    4. Restart Windows and test Copilot again

Step 2: Reset Microsoft Store cache

This refreshes Copilot’s licensing and package registration.

    1. Press Win + R
    2. Type “wsreset.exe” and press Enter
    3. Wait for the Store to reopen automatically, then retry Copilot

Step 3: Verify Microsoft account sign‑in status in Windows

Copilot can fail silently if the account token is broken.

    1. Go to “Settings” > “Accounts” > “Your info”
    2. Confirm you are signed in with your Microsoft account
    3. If you see “Verify”, complete verification
    4. Restart and test again

Step 4: Install the latest emergency Windows update

Microsoft released out‑of‑band fixes for update‑related sign‑in issues affecting Copilot and other Microsoft apps.

    1. Open “Settings” > “Windows Update”
    2. Select “Check for updates”
    3. Install any optional or emergency updates shown
    4. Restart the PC
