Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Microsoft 365 does not need to be “transferred” from one device to another. It is installed and activated on the new device using the same Microsoft account that owns the subscription.
Follow these steps on the new device:
- Go to https://www.office.com in a browser.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that has the Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Select Apps on the left (if shown).
- In the upper-right corner, select Install apps.
- When the installer file finishes downloading, open it and follow the prompts to complete installation.
If the subscription allows installation on multiple devices (for example, Microsoft 365 Personal on several devices for one person, or Microsoft 365 Family shared with others), it can simply be installed on the new device this way. If the device limit is reached, uninstall Office from an old device or manage installs from the account’s services and subscriptions page, then install on the new device.
Files and emails are not moved automatically with the app installation. If needed, sign into OneDrive and Outlook on the new device with the same account so documents, email, contacts, and calendar sync from the cloud.
