Hi Ace Last name not needed,

I’m really sorry this happened to you. Losing a laptop is stressful, and it’s understandable to want to locate it as quickly as possible. However, as the Q&A Assist explained above, Windows “Find my device” likely no longer works, and Microsoft has no way to track or locate it.

This is a hard technical and privacy limit, not something support can override. You should depend on physical search and/or the authority instead. File a police report with the description of the laptop and the last location you still had it. In addition, protect your data:

    • Change your Microsoft account password and review recent sign‑in activity.
    • If BitLocker or device encryption was enabled, drive remains protected.
    • If you used OneDrive, your files are still safe in the cloud.

I know this isn’t the outcome you were hoping for, but once a Windows device is removed from the account, tracking it is no longer possible.

If the stolen laptop no longer appears on the Microsoft account Devices page, it cannot be located using Microsoft’s “Find my device” service.

For “Find my device” to work, all of the following must be true beforehand:

    • The device is a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, laptop, Surface, or similar Windows device.
    • It was signed in with a personal Microsoft account where the user is an administrator.
    • “Find my device” was turned on in Settings.
    • The device is connected to the internet and has enough battery to report its location.

If the device has been wiped, reset, or signed out of the Microsoft account, it will no longer be associated with that account and will not show on the Devices page, so it cannot be tracked or locked via Microsoft tools.

    What can still be done:

    1. Check if any other Windows devices still show under the Microsoft account and confirm that the stolen one is truly missing from https://account.microsoft.com/devices.
    2. If the device does appear, use the Find My Device tab to try locating or remotely locking it:
      • Select the device.
      • Select Find to see its last reported location.
      • If it appears, select Lock to remotely lock it and then change the account password.
    3. If it does not appear at all, contact local law enforcement with the device serial number and any purchase documentation, as Microsoft tools cannot locate it.

For any future Windows device, enable “Find my device” as soon as it is set up:

    • Windows 10: Start > Settings > Update & Security > Find my device.
    • Windows 11: Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Find my device.
