I've subscribed to Microsoft 365 Home in November 2025 and have been using this since the date of purchase. I opened outlook this morning and asked for my Product Key. I've lost my product key. where can I find this?

Hi! Did you subscribe to a Microsoft 365 plan, or did you purchase a perpetual Office Home license?

Go to https://account.microsoft.com/account?lang=en-us > Sign in with your account > Click on Subscriptions > Expand Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office > Check if your subscription is still valid and what subscription you have.

Licenses are usually linked to your Microsoft account.

Is only Outlook asking for a license? Or Word and Excel as well?

If your subscription is valid, try reconnecting your account.

    1. Open Word or Excel > File > Account > Sign out.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Open Word or Excel again and sign in with your account.

For a Microsoft 365 Home (now Microsoft 365 for home) subscription, a product key is normally not needed after activation. When Outlook or another Microsoft 365 app prompts for a product key, sign in with the Microsoft account used to buy the subscription instead of entering a key.

    Steps:

    1. Close all Office apps.
    2. Open any Microsoft 365 app (for example, Word or Outlook).
    3. When prompted to activate or enter a product key, choose the option to Sign in.
    4. Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used when the subscription was purchased in November 2025.

If the correct account is used, the subscription should activate without needing the original key.

If a physical or emailed product key card was used originally and that key is now lost or damaged, it cannot be viewed online. Product keys are not displayed online for Microsoft 365 subscriptions. If proof of purchase is available and there are still activation issues after signing in with the correct account, contact Microsoft support for further assistance.

    Useful notes from the documentation:

    • Microsoft 365 apps should be installed and activated by signing in at the Microsoft account, Services & subscriptions page, not by re‑entering a product key.
    • Lost or damaged product keys may be replaced only if valid proof of purchase is provided, and this is handled through Microsoft support.
