Thank you for reaching out. I’d like to help you with this.
Have you already checked the device manual or specifications to confirm whether this model includes a backlight feature?
Also, could you please share the exact make and model of your device?
In the meantime, please take a close look at your function keys (F1 to F12), as many laptops include a backlight toggle on one of these keys. It is usually marked with a keyboard or light icon.
Once you find it, try pressing that key once, or press Fn + that function key to enable the backlight.

For newer Surface devices specifically, the F5 key cycles through the backlight levels. Pressing F5 repeatedly should step through several brightness levels (including off). On some older models, the backlight key is F7 instead of F5, and the Fn key may need to be toggled so that the function row works as special keys rather than F1–F12.
If the expected backlight key (F5 or F7) does nothing even after toggling Fn, and all other keys work normally, the device may not actually have a backlit keyboard or there may be a hardware issue with the backlight.
