Restart (not shut down) your PC to flush out your RAM.
Open Task Manager.
Select the Processes tab, then leave that window open to monitor your system.
When your PC is lagging, please provide a screenshot of that Processes tab.

Right click your Start Button and open Device Manager.
Please provide a screenshot of that full Device Manager window.

- Install Windows and driver updates
- Select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
- Install everything offered, then restart.
- For optional drivers:
- Windows 11: Start > Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Windows 10: Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View optional updates.
- Install available updates and restart.
- Scan for malware Malware can cause long pauses.
- Windows 11: Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Quick scan.
- Windows 10: Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Quick scan.
- Restart if asked.
- Check which apps are slowing the PC
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- On Processes, look for apps using a lot of CPU, Memory, or Disk.
- Right‑click and End task for apps not needed.
- On Startup apps (or Startup tab), disable apps that do not need to start with Windows.
- Optimize drives
- Select Start, type Defragment and Optimize Drives, open it.
- Select the system drive (usually C:) and choose Optimize.
- Adjust for best performance
- Select Start, type Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows, open it.
- On Visual Effects, select Adjust for best performance, then OK.
- Set power mode to Best performance (if on mains power)
- Start > Settings > System > Power & battery.
- Set Power mode to Best performance.
- Note: This uses more power and can make laptops run warmer.
- Close unused apps and restart regularly
- Close extra browser tabs and apps when not needed.
- Restart via Start > Power > Restart, then only open the apps needed.
If the PC is quite old, these steps may help only a little; in that case, hardware upgrades or a newer device may be required for big improvements.
