To resolve the error 0x800706D9, launch the Services MMC by running services.msc from the Run dialog. Then, configure the startup type of the following services:

Storage Service → Automatic (Delayed Start)

Windows Defender Firewall → Automatic

Windows Update → Manual

Start each of the above services manually. If you get any errors, please include them in your reply.

Error 0x800706D9 commonly occurs with Windows Update downloads when the Windows Defender Firewall service is disabled.

To fix it, enable Windows Defender Firewall:

1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
2. In the Services list, find Windows Defender Firewall.
3. Make sure the Startup type is not set to Disabled (set it to Automatic or Manual).
4. If the Status is Stopped, select Start.
5. Apply the changes and try the download again.

Stopping or disabling the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security service is not supported and can cause this error during update or download operations.

If the issue persists after enabling the firewall, also check for conflicting Windows Update policies or configuration that might interfere with downloads.
